Green Homes Grant - Cavity Wall insulation

Dear All,

After seven months of back and forth with the Green Homes grant admin team we have finally obtained our voucher.

Therefore we have now gone back to the insulation company to give them the go ahead, but they have now informed us that the rules and requirements for having cavity wall insulation installed have changed, and that we now need 'trickle vents' within our windows.

Has anyone else had this issue, and does anyone know the actual requirements for having the work undertaken?

Its just seems to me, that this scheme was just a big publicity stunt to make it look as if the Government were going 'green', but in reality they have put every obstacle in the way to avoid paying out.

Would be grateful of any help.

Thanks
Sarge

I had this problem.  I installed fans in the bathroom and toilet, and bought trickle vents off ebay and installed them on the relevant windows.  A guy came round, took photos to evidence the claim they'd be making to the Green Homes Grant scheme, and proudly announced we were good to go.  Nobody ever checked the trickle vents were actually venting...

We'll be embarking on lots of work soon, including replacing all windows - I expect I'll be required to have trickle vents proper on the replacement windows, which I don't mind, the house does get a bit damp in winter and we have to manage it opening windows or running dehumidifiers.

Is cavity wall insulation still a thing? I had it done several years ago and wish I hadn't. Although mine seems ok there are some real horror stories around it either getting wet and not drying out (ok there needs to be a fault in the pointing to let the water in) or it settling and leaving cold spots that then create condensation inside the cavity walls. From reliable sources too if you search.

Have a good look at info on the various types of insulation and what their pro's and cons are. When I was plumbing I would core a hole through a wall for a pipe in some properties  and loads of polystyrene balls would drop out and if the wind blew through the newly made hole it would be like being in a snow-globe.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.
