O/S Daily Tuesday 3 August 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, wet and overcast start to the day here, rain looks set in for the day, lots of laying water too.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was salad, hot new potatoes, ham, scotch egg, pork pie, coleslaw, potato salad. Tonight will be chicken possibly with herbs served with rice or pasta in a sauce.
Yesterday work was busy - I've been put on the rota for a different job this afternoon and it involves staying a bit later - no-one has asked if I'm ok to do this - this is how things are managed now - this happens to staff on a regular basis.
Hairdresser is coming tonight, always makes me feel better once I've had a haircut - she's colouring my hair tonight aswell.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. IIt's sunny here, for now, yesterday wasn't bad, bit chilly, but dry.We are going to the hairdressers this morning, and the quiz tonight. Between those 2 events who knows what will happen, there's the usual jobs I suppose.Rosy Red, I too keep little scraps of paper and card, thinking I'm going to use for little die cuts, the reality is I forget about them. I should make a card for Dil in Oz and get it in the post, I airmail cards, and usually allow a month for them to arrive, which means I should be doing it sharpish.Hope everyone has a good Tuesday - thinking of our poorly people, and those who have had bereavements.Take care folks14

Morning folks.Yesterday was a flurry of more paintings related emails. The gardener came and continued the clearing of the jungle. She filled eight big bags of brambles and weeds which I took to the tip, though the garden waste huge skip was overflowing so all the bags came back. I'll try again today. On the way home I drove into the wee village by the sea lock where a man was selling plants from his front garden. I bought a lupin and a purplely-white fuchsia to start filling the gaps in the back garden. All that means that I successfully avoided sorting the spare bedroom. ☹️ I must crack on with it sometime. I suspect I'm putting it off until after finishing DM's place, perhaps.Today I will have to rearrange the paintings in the garden barn. I foolishly laid them down flat but need them stacked vertically for when I need to find one, like I do for Friday. It'll just be tedious! And I've got a new episode of NCIS to watch from last night, I'm not sure of the new dynamics yet. 😀
There's going to be a COVID announcement today by our FM, should be some relaxations of restrictions set out. I'm wavering between fear and pleasure.Maddie - I hope that clearing out your DM's room wasn't too difficult for you and your brother.Happy Tuesday to all.

Morning all! Decidedly chilly this morning, I have a thick puffy check shirt on obviously working on my lumberjack look. I didnt get round to the dvds but I did get soaked in a thunderstorm trying to unblock the guttering to the water butts. I gave up too late to avoid a soaking because obviously, being sensible has never been a strong point of mine and waited until it had stopped raining so then I cleaned that guttering, then the guttering on the lean to. A lot of black stinky stuff [mostly moss] came out so they're both clean now. Today is blood test number 2 and definitely those dvds. I did go shoping yesterday and got some Sains own extra strong teabags. And they are. And I really like them. I thought I'd try something different for a change after I saw the price of my normal tea. Giving OH a lift this week during nasty weather, good job too,the thunderstorm had just started when I picked ihmup yesterday. His workmate was not so lucky, walking home in a T-Shirt...Rosy, my condolences to you. Gers, what a lovely story and memory. Camelot, they're fast little things. And apparently an enemy of chickens. Bella, I'm not sure that that isn't a part of getting older. I find myself reminiscing more about my parents, myself and my sister often say 'yeah, daddy would have liked that' or 'mammy would have liked that' etc. Nanny, enjoy your biscuit making, if there's a spare peanut butter one....:) Ruby, you make me worry that mine will break down, I don't think I could do the handwashing again after that...I'd maybe go for paper plates while I was waiting for it to be fixed
I hope you all have a day of fun or not not fun, thanks for the welcome back and stay safe!

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun is shining here and the sky is blue. I am hoping it stays with us all day! Yesterday the weather followed the usual pattern of much cloud with intermittent sunshine and then at tea time the cloud left us and the evening was beautiful.
It's Tuesday so it's meet up morning with my oldest buddy. It will be the usual couple of coffees followed by lunch, but cut shorter today as DF needs to leave straight afterwards for a funeral. She goes to more funerals than anyone else I know. I call her a professional funeral goer!
If the nice weather stays with us I should take advantage and do more blooming weeding at the front when I get back. I'm sure I get more than my fair share of weeds, they seem to sprout up overnight.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones, bereaved or just sad. Take care one and all and be safe x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"14 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
DP, I have messaged you the link to my blog as I don't think I'm allowed to post the link.
I was still awake at 3:30 and only slept until 7, I think we may move again today and we are going to pie night at a nearby pub. I hope I can stay awake.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Good morning all,
Sunny, bit chillier here at present, some rain in night, but patio dry now. I drove through a heavy storm on way home yesterday, it had just passed here and one or two floods nearer home.
It took P and me 2 hours to sort and pack mum's possessions, large amount in car to be claimed or otherwise by siblings and a whole stack of bags of clothes for CS, proffered one is not taking large donations ATM so will filter some in this week and the rest will have to wait until after our holiday next wee.
Rosy and Csarina so sorry to read your news, as said by Gers it is quite a different thing saying goodbye to our oldies than life being cut so short of a young person.
Will walk into town for a mooch and drop to CS
nmlc thank you for the new thread, lack of consultation and courtesy seems to be the way of things with a lot of employers these days, DB saying some ill thought out changes where he works are causing problems, but it is biting them on the bum as people are leaving in numbers rather than deal with fhe flack from customers.
taff OH did the same thing with the guttering recently, nasty shock all that cold dirty water.
Hugs and spoons, have the best day you can.

Hi everyone,
I'm just watching the diving final, it looks as if we have another medal. Steve has gone to play golf so I have a lovely quiet morning. It's a great game for retired couples, gets them out of the house for four hours at a time. I will be making some veggie flapjacks for Esben, he loves them. I know Laura worries about his diet but he eats lots of fruit and veg, he just doesn't particularly like meat or eggs by themselves so protein is a bit of a problem. I made a tomato, courgette and mushroom pasta sauce last night and added lentils for the protein so hopefully that will go down well with added cheese for more protein. I was reading a twitter thread about people letting their grandchildren things like magnums for breakfast and sugar laden drinks and sweets, it was very funny but I can't imagine doing that - maybe when he's older! What do others think.
I sorted through three clothes drawers yesterday and filled a bag with clothes I've not warn for ages but was keeping just in case. I go through my wardrobe regularly but the drawers are out of sight out of mind. Anyway there is room for the clothes that are left now rather than cramming them in. I want to carry on the momentum but I'm not sure what to do next.

Morning All
Dull and overcast this morning. It was more promising early on when I went for a swim in the Loch. Never mind, yesterday was warm and sunny, can't have it the same every day! A long, hot shower was in order when I got in this morning, it seemed to be colder than usual.
Maybe you should leave sorting your house until after you've finished at your DM's Gers, once that's done you will have more head space.
Well done to you Maddie, that must have been a difficult job.
Sending my love to you Rosie.
snoozer, I remember my children being really fussy for a while over breakfast in particular. Although I would never have agreed to ice cream (apart from when we went to the US and had to use it up before we left!) I let them have what they wanted - chicken soup and pizza for breakfast, porridge for supper, etc - saved a lot of arguements, they soon got fed up with it and went back to normal.
I'm taking the little one for her 'spash' session this morning whilst DD has a swim, I'll miss it when I go back to work.
Yesterday's haul from the allotment was great, lots of peas, 3 courgettes and a tub of green beans that all seem to be ready at once. The peas and beans are in the freezer, the courgettes will be used up or given away. I have some squash growing too, the plants are enormous and appear to be taking over the whole plot!
Have a good day, hugs to those in need. Take care. XX13 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
We are still waiting for news re stepsons fiancee, there had been one PM, and it looked as if they were going to do a second.
I managed to get the laundry dry on the line yesterday. The chap came and filled in the holes, he is coming back on Friday to sand it back and paint the wall. He also managed to open the kitchen window and put a new handle on the bedroom. We have a new key, so much be careful not to loose it.
Dark load of laundry in, the sun is just showing its face, so it should dry, there is so much I am having to do 2 loads.
Guess DB will be out in the garden this morning, I need to dead head the geraniums in the pots and hanging baskets. I also want to take some cuttings off the fuchsia to grow on for next year. There are plants we need to sort out where they are to go as well.
Supper tonight salmon and salad, we have enough of the crumble left for a small portion each tonight. I will scrub and cook a few new potatoes to go with the salad.8 -
Morning everyone, thanks nmlc- hope you don't need to stay too late at work! Its nice and sunny today, and warmer thank goodness. I did a spot of weeding in our front garden yesterday TA, & a lot of dead heading our lovely climbing rose, don't suppose the recent rain helps as it's washed all the petals onto the floor.Thank you all for the kind thoughts about my cousin's DD, we haven't heard when the funeral is yet, but I do have to go to another on Thursday, the dad of one of DS good friends. We lived on the same road for years until we moved.Feel tired today, DH had a bad night as his back was bad, he pulled something at work, and DDog was restless too, perhaps she could hear him too.Ended up coming downstairs to the sofa but sleep was still elusive, yawn.Scarlet - I didn't realise it took that long for cards to Australia. We have some friends in Adelaide so probably their X mas card is usually lateI ordered a meat pack from the butchers last night & need to pick it up tomorrow. I think I'll have to dig into the chest freezer for tonights tea, and it could really do with a defrost if the new meat is going in there. We had salmon & prawns in peri peri sauce last night, with some of the new potatoes & peas I got sent instead of sthg else last week.Time for a strong coffee now I think, otherwise I'll get nothing doneKind thoughts going out to everyone x
