    I am not sure of the details, but believe that you need to tell DWP about the inheritance from the date of death and not just when the money actually hits your account, so delaying the payment will not result in more benefits.
    But as you will need to pay for yourself while this money is in your account it would benefit you to get as prepared as possible to make any house purchase rapidly.  Before you get the money you can find out all the costs you need to budget for, which conveyancer you would like to use, and start looking at the housing market in your area and what is likely to be available in your price range.
