Hello, I’d be grateful to receive any feedback on whether this quote is reasonable.
The quote is for a roofing job that is necessary following the discovery of a leak.
Property is a three bedroom terraced house.
Lead flashing is needed on one side along with renewing the two valleys with zinc.
Exact quote says:
Supply and erect scaffolding to property
Supply and fix code 4 lead flashing to be stepped into brickwork and re pointed using 3 sand 1 cement
Renew valleys using 12g zinc
Remove all rubbish
Cost £4000 plus vat.

Hard to know without knowing the job . I would say its a hard days work . no more code 4 200mm about a tenner a yard max . zinc valleys 15 inch about £25 per 8 ft max . If its 2 valleys on a not too big roof then 6 lengths of zinc and about 10m of code4 200mm . £250 in materials and a bit of butter . scaff can be expensive but for a week on a semi I would expect no mpre than £600/700 max

Thanks for your reply. Is there any other information I could provide to help you judge whether the quote is fair? Obviously the materials needed and scaffolding are only a part of the total cost. I have no idea how much labour would be for a roofer.0

Pardon the pun but - that's a bit steep!
With any building work, I was once advised to always get three quotes, not just one.
So that's what I do and what I would advise. Get some more quotes. Then you will have more of an idea of what roofers charge and what a reasonable cost for the whole job is.Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. I think that's good advice and I am trying to do that. To be honest it's been difficult to get quotes, and that's one of the reasons I posted on here. I'm not sure how long one can reasonably wait after getting a quote. If it takes 3 or 4 weeks, will the first roofer still think of their quote as valid?0 -
