Probably the vast majority of people.

The newly self employed can't claim the 4th and 5th grant if they are selected to undergo further checks, without completing these checks.

The first step is a phone call, followed by uploading evidence via Dropbox.

I haven't received a call despite chasing them several times. Anyone else in this position?

I am aware of the procedure, there will be a lot of people who HMRC need to work through so it will take them some time.

You chasing them will not change anything, they will follow through their list in chronological order of when the applications were made. Last time they took around a week for most, though some took a couple weeks, a few it took a month. As long as you have submitted your application and they have confirmed receipt they will get to you in due course. Other people will be in the same position.

    Still waiting for a call.
Have you checked what the status of your claim is on the HMRC/Government Gateway site?

If this isn't sorted by the end of September, what are the chances of me actually being able to claim the 5th grant?
Fairly low I would imagine, but that is nearly seven weeks away and you have only been waiting two and a half. Check the status of your application online, first make sure it went through, second make sure it was not rejected, third see if it shows what the status currently is. You can then work out what action to take based on the information you then have.

Just to double check, did you claim SEISS 4? The eligibility requirements for SEISS 5 are the same for SEISS 4 and verification for SEISS 4 took place in March and April, as far as I am aware HMRC were not conducting ID checks for SEISS in June as the window had already closed.
  • Hiya
I have just read this. My 5th Grant has the same message as you and I claimed the 4th Grant.
I am also waiting for my Tax Rebate.
I called and called and on my 5th phone call was told I am going through identity checks off the back of my self-assessment. I had to send over 100 pages of documentation including copies of IDs, utility bills and all my bank statements for the tax year.
If you still haven't heard it may be worth calling and asking specifically if you need to do this. It involves a R38 form.

As I said, it took me until the 5th HMRC employee to find out this information inspite me asking in every call if I or my accountant needed to do anything. HMRC had sent the letter to my old address even though I had updated it.
I also contacted my local MP who has asked for an update. I doubt I'll be claiming my 5th Grant as I have been told not to expect it do be looked at anytime soon...

I find it really frustrating. Totally understand Covid has causes issues but I come from a family or self-employed workers, nurses, paramedics and teachers all of whom have worked the whole pandemic without moaning or being able to blame Covid for work delays....doesn't quite fly when you're a first response paramedic!

  • I have missed the deadline for the 5th instalment grant which was on 31st September 2021. Is there anyway i can still claim as the gov website wont allow you too. I cant seem to find a contact number either
