PCR test day 2

Options
Hi can anyone recommend a reputable company that doesn't cost the earth.  We are going on our holiday that was moved from last year (we hoped things would improve) and need to get the day 2 tests sorted (we have waited as long as poss in case our holiday was again cancelled but looks like it will now go ahead in 2 weeks time.  We have read all the reviews on the Government website and most of them are pretty awful which doesn't help when you need a service they are meant to be providing - we never did find the £22 yet.  Has anyone been abroad and done the test and if so which ones did you use and did they deliver the service?  My main worry is that we get these tests and they never send us the results and then do we get fined because we have complied with the guidelines?  I have read a few reviews where people have had to chase for their results and have heard nothing.  I know it has been asked before but my head is spinning from all the information and l am just looking for some advice.  Many thanks

Which country will you be returning from ? I assume it’s one on the Green  list ?

If you buy the Day 2 test from one of the suppliers on the government’s approved list and take the test , you will not be fined if the company is late with the results - there have been a lot of problems reported but it mostly affected people travelling from Amber countries that  needed the negative Day 8 test result to end quarantine.

Why do you care if its a reputable company?

Almost all are just resellers of others kits, you're buying from the governments list of vetted suppliers (and mates) and so if they are shoddy what does it matter to you? The government is only informed of positive test results and so if it takes the one you've selected off their list 2 weeks to do the test and it shows its negative what difference in life does it make?

If you had to do a day 5 test to release then I can understand caring about the speed of response but otherwise the post returning to the UK ones, buy on price

Hi thank you everyone for your replies.  We are going to Corfu which is currently on the amber list but this could change at any moment to the amber+ or maybe one of the other colours of the rainbow if the government decide.

Onashoestring that was one of the reasons l asked here for advice because some people said they were having to chase their results and getting nowhere and l was worried we would be fined if they didn't send us the results.  We have like many people done everything we have been asked to keep safe and if the holiday is going ahead (if they don't change it to amber+) we can;t afford to lose our money and it was the holiday that was cancelled last year when we knew very little about the virus.  Seems being vaccinated did nothing apart from give me a sore arm and now a headache trying to sort this out.   Lets hope things improve or we could be home prisoned again.

We have just returned from Greece but did not book our Day2 test until a couple of days before we returned - in case the rules changed again before we arrived back. I left it until I had to complete the UK PLF which requires the booking reference for the test.. Test should have arrived today but no sign as yet, but apparently the key thing is to have your booking reference and receipt as proof that the test was ordered in compliance with the regulations. This appears to be a very convenient way of being OK for the person that has booked the test, but also for the less efficient / honest test providers.
    Not even wrong

I recently had an issue where the day 2 test turned up late. The test and trace folks simply said that if it didn’t turn up by day 5 then I should go and get an NHS PCR test. I guess, the same would apply if you didn’t receive your results. Just let the T and T folks know and they will help….I wouldn’t worry about fines if you have complied by booking.

Thank you Twopints and Diddidi.  It is so confusing and this waiting around to see what the news rules are going to be just add to the pressure.  We don't fly until the 16th Aug when the self-isolating didn't apply to fully vaccinated people.  We thought we should wait to see what he brings in on Aug 5th and was hoping that by now it would have been leaked to the newspapers and we would know before hand like all the other new rules but nothing has come out yet.  We have found a company for our Day 2 tests and they send them the day we fly home so think we will contact them just before we fly home just in case things change yet again - because it seems that he likes to say one thing and then change his mind and do something else which also doesn't happen.  I just wonder why we bothered to get both jabs if it isn't really going to change anything.  Again thanks for your replies.
