New build - no permission for gas hob

No surprise the developer is being economical with the truth.
Electric means a cable which is simple to provide as the kitchen is full of electrics anyway.
Gas means additional pipework, which depending where the meter and boiler are and other construction details of the property i.e. concrete floors etc may be a pain for a single gas hob.0 -
One downside is the pans sliding around. Drives me crazy on ours. Heat-wise it's brilliant.0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Oh me too. We replaced the existing (electric) hob with an induction one shortly after we moved to current house and I love it. I had a gas hob in previous house and didn't think anything would beat it but this one does.0

If it really really bothers you, then pay a gas safe engineer to fit a gas hob as soon as you move in.Just because the builder will not fit one does not mean you are not allowed to have one.3

I am worried about the increasing number of induction hobs. I have a pacemaker and cannot stand close to an induction hob due to the strong magnet.MFW since March 2019Mortgage-free 30th June 2023

Goodness, I hadn't realised they effected pacemakers.

The British Heart Foundation say to try and keep at least 60cm between your heart and the hob.

That's really not very far at all... It's pretty normal to keep that kind of distance between your chest and hot pans anyway...
(And if somebody else is cooking, then you're DEFINITELY going to be further than that.)
OTOH, the Daily Brownshirt says YOU WILL DIE!

I think I know which of the two I put more credence in.

Thanks for the BHF link. I am short so a lot closer to the hob than someone of average height. I have measured and reckon my pacemaker is about 40cm away from the front rings. It's reassuring that I'd be ok if I was just chatting in a kitchen with someone else doing the cooking. But I do have to continue checking the hob type if I book a self-catering holiday.
