Hi,could anybody tell me if the council can install a road next to my property boundary,and then say i have to move my fence to allow for a service strip.technically stealing 2m of my garden.

    Before I bought my house, the council widened the road and the front garden was reduced in size by compulsory order, so I think the answer to to your question is probably yes, with a compulsory order of some description, but I think there would need to be a consultation first.

    We specialise in private parking charges here so I doubt the regulars will know the answer. Someone over on pepipoo.com might, but this is more of a legal question than one about motoring.

    You should definitely seek legal advice. A local solicitor might offer a free half hour, or CAB might be able to help, or you could ask your question on the legalbeagles website.
    I suggest you also contact your local MP and the local press.

    Public bodies including Councils have powers to buy (not steal) land off anyone.
