Amex settlement offer

Options
Hello,

I defaulted on my Amex accounts after a series of bad events (divorce, illness, etc...) and I am now in a position to settle two out of my three Amex accounts (18 months after).
Does anyone knows how long will it be before I am able to have another Amex account? My credit rating was shot but I am improving it steadily and one of those accounts can be settled straight away and another in about three months.
I miss the Amex service and ease of use of their cards and online platforms...

Thanks a lot in advance,

MsMW

    They are very selective.
Probably after the defaults drop from your credit report - if everything else is kept up to date.
  • Amex are known to auto-decline further business where they have written off bad debt.
You can always try and if they decline, they may be able to advise if this is the reason.

Amex are known for not being very forgiving to account holders whom have defaulted on there accounts.

They have something known internally as a blacklist and if your on it they won’t ever let you have another Amex product and all applications will be declined.

So you may never be able to have an Amex card ever again.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

All Amex cards say “no history of bad debt” it might be forever given the debt was with them.

They were part of my bankruptcy in 2013 - and as of yet I haven't been 'eligible' on their 'eligibility checker' to get another card - so although I wouldn't say it's impossible to get one again, it'll not be that likely. It might depend on whether your repayments are for what you owe, or whether they are partial settlements. If you actually owe them money and it's written off - they won't forget easily.

I defaulted on my first Amex card, which was part of my DMP with Step Change that I completed in 2013.

I applied for a new Amex card two years ago and was surprised to get it with a £5,000 credit limit.  After a couple of months, Amex reduced my credit limit to £1,200 - I assume my past had caught up with me(!)

After two years of paying off my balance in full each month, they've just increased my credit limit to £2,100
    Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.

Dealt with my debt through a Step Change
