I am trying to help a friend with her painfully slow laptop. In the end I did a system reset clean one. so my problem is I can't do any windows updates I am getting windows update error encounted (0x80071a91) also I am having trouble finding drivers. I might just add since doing the reset the laptop has improved to what it was.

Hi
Strangely Windows updates only like to run once every 24 hours.
There are mega-millions here

In my experience, just constantly restarting W10 often sorts out stubborn updates.Does the machine have an SSD or a slower HDD?0

Good old constant W10 updates. I've not had one in a week or two now.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it is running with an Intel® Celeron® N2830 or Intel® Celeron® N2840
Dire:
If so, please suggest to your friend to swap the HDD for an SSD. It will make all the difference. Without it the device is barely fit for purpose.
Take a look at this video featuring a device of similar specification. HDD on the left; SSD on the right:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e57EcYw6qLE
This video shows you how to get to the HDD in the first minute and a half:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh0-bSpCTnY
