Halifax Ultimate Reward

I’ve just seen the posts about reclaiming fees on packaged accounts. Yes I’m most likely late to the party, but I don’t keep up with what’s going on really.
Anyway, I’ve had this account since 1995 and although I’m happy with it I do feel as though it was miss sold to me. I had a solo account at the time which I’d had since I was about 14 and had never changed it. I was advised in 1995 that as I was no longer a student I didn’t qualify for the solo anymore and would have to change to a reward account. This was the only option I was given.
So although I’m happy with the benefits on the account I do feel this was forced on me.
Would this be seen as being mis sold ?
Thoughts appreciated.

Possibly, only you’ll ever know but you’re almost certainly going to be time barred if you do complain, so set your expectations to zero and if you do get it upheld and your fees refunded then it’s a bonus, though they’ll likely force you to downgrade your account to a non-fee paying account this losing the benefits you’re happy with.

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)
  • Halifax Ultimate Reward wasn't launched until 7th December 2006 so not sure how you can claim to have had it since 1995, indeed, according to this article in the Guardian, that was their first ever packaged account.

As such, I don't know how you can argue you were forced to take out an account that didn't exist in 1995, not how in the 26 years since then, you didn't feel it was miss-sold or change?

Regardless, it's outside the 6 year time bar rule and Halifax have been very good with sending out CCLs with lists of the packaged account costs/benefits and offering free alternatives so you'll almost certainly be barred under the 3 year rule too. Can't see them rolling over and giving you a refund either given it's possible you would have 15 years worth of fees + interest in a complaint win, so a time bar is vastly cheaper

This must have been called something previous to ultimate Reward. But I do remember being moved from solo as they stated I no longer qualified.

That is normal.  Child, student and graduate accounts from all banks stop being available and require conversion to a conventional account at some point.

As I said above, the 2006 reward account was their first paid for account so you didn't get a PBA in 1995 from Halifax - you might have moved onto one in 2006. Your dates also don't add up, you said you had the account since 1995, then in 1995 you had to change it? Do you mean you had the solo account from around 1995 and then when you were presumably 21 or so, maybe 10 years later in 2006, you switched?

If you're claiming you want the benefits, how was it miss-sold? Have you made any claims on any of the policies?
