EON to EON Next - EON Final Bill Warning
Options
I received a final bill from EON this morning of over £120 (even though I am in credit, so they owe me) after paying for two months of a quarters period with EON and EON Next taking a monthly payment for the third quarter (this meant that EON transferred control of the account sometime between 2nd and 3rd months, June and July). But the transfer should not have any implications on the customer as Tariff and Direct Debit payments have been taken over to new company, therefore no adverse effects on the customer.
As I spend many hours a week tracking down scammers this did not seem correct. If I allowed them to take the final bill payment they sent (and they do of course say "Please don't cancel your Direct Debit before this date") then I would find it difficult to get my money back. It is possible that EON have made a grave mistake. However, the facts are clear, EON would be holding money that does not belong to them and if, as in a scam situation, getting it back from the company would be hindered by the fact your account is no longer with EON and if you try to contact them you may find it impossible, as all details have been transferred to EON Next including online services which currently does not work anyway. As I understand it from EON Next if you are in credit/debit that just transfers over to the new company.
So I contacted EON and got transferred to EON Next who told me everything is OK on my account and they have no idea what EON are doing sending out final statements requesting money. EON Next customer services have advised me to close my Direct Debit with EON immediately, therefore I have raised a complaint with EON Next on behalf of EON to stop this happening to anybody else. This may not help everybody as EON have not given the expected notice to change your direct debit (mine is less than ten days).
So I have done my job in warning of the issue and hope that nobody falls into this trap. Please keep a eye on when EON Next takes it's first payment from your account then hope you don't get a final statement bill from EON. As EON could be sitting on millions of pounds of customers money for some time if this is not a mistake made on me only!!!
It would of course be interesting if anybody else has this issue as I come across so called business practice (scams) perpetrated by big companies all the time.

The original post has been reviewed by myself and the Terms of the EON transfer process are complcated by the small print on the bill. So the company that gains are actually EON Next as the whole quarter payment transfers to EON Next leaving EON requesting the final payment which must be paid.Apologies for any confusion. It still means that EON Next starts thier business with large in credit payments and we all may find it difficult to get refunds of this. I now suggest that when things settle down in a few months customers should reduce their direct debits or request their credit back.0

@WelshBowler Ask to change to variable DD where you pay the bill in full each month. This will mean that you won't pay anything until all the credit is used up.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Your neighbour must be on fixed DD where the same amount is taken each month.
With variable DD you give a meter reading each month, a bill is generated and around 14 days later the bill amount is taken by DD. This means the account in never debit/credit, always 0.
