I can't help but wonder how it would have worked in reverse if the correct car had arrived but I'd turned up to collect it saying I could no longer afford to pay what I'd agreed and would be reducing the monthly payments accordingly. 😂
I'm currently in the market for a 'new' car and 6-8 weeks ago the model I'm looking at was around 8k, they are now currently being offered around 9K, cars are getting more expensive in current climate

Great idea checking other dealerships out, certainly will give you answer/s your looking for.0 -

Might be able to find the same car at a much better price. Alternatively, have a look online for the car in the spec you want as nearly new or used and use as little finance as you can, for as low cost as you can. Ideally a mixture of a low rate personal loan and savings.
Good luck!1 -

But yes, there is shortage of supply, and looking it from their point of view, why would they sell me the next one off the production line at a lower price than they can sell it to someone buying at today's rates.
You are being offered the next available production slot.
The car you want, the one you ordered, YOUR car simply does not exist. Yet.
It hasn't been built, it isn't sat in stock somewhere. It will be built for you.
When? As soon as possible...
Where in the world is it being assembled? Because don't forget it has to get from there to here... (This may not be where you assume from the manufacturer's nominal home country)
The dealer will be invoiced by the manufacturer at the prevailing rate, just as they were for the car you said you didn't want.
You have three choices...
1. Take the car that's been built for you, even though it's not the right spec.
2. Wait for a car to be built for you to the right spec.
3. Walk away.
Pick one.
What's the spec mistake on this one? Is it a case of some piece of tech missing, or is it wrong colour/trim etc?
The way some manufacturers are dealing with the global chip shortage is to produce what they can, with some orders "jumping the queue", letting orders for some advanced tech options wait. It may well be that the spec you want would fall foul of that delay.1 -

SueC_2 said:The reason for the delay from "for June" to "mid July" was the chip shortage. But then when it turned up it was wrong colour/trim. I know it's maybe petulant to insist on the correct colour/trim, but I'm paying a lot of money for this car and I want to love it, not look at it and think "bluch". I'm a girl, I pick a car on colour and how easy it is to drive, what can I say..........
Simply paint colour?
Or internal seats colour?
Or, you say "trim" so do you mean something else? Did you order the GLX and they got the LX?
Or, is there just a cost-option left off?
Another way of turning this around, if you could live with the error, would be to accept the car they have now, but for a discount from the agreed price to reflect the value of the error in the spec. For example, if you ordered a electric blue paint £500 option and the car turned up in standard navy blue (no cost option), ask for the £500 off the price.
Given we are all left to guess what the car and discrepancy is, it is difficult to give any fully considered comment.0 -
Just to say that all's well that ends well! Not that it's actually ended yet, and won't do for several months, but as has been said by some of you wise people, the dealer did eventually come up with an agreement that has kept us both happy. A new car is being ordered for me, the finances have been 'balanced', and I get to keep the loan car until mine arrives. I am incredibly glad that I stood my ground and didn't accept any of the less palatable solutions that were offered along the way, and am also relieved that it has all been resolved amicably and without anyone getting "all contractual" and feisty in any way.
With thanks to everyone here for words of wisdom and advice!

Glad it worked out for you, OP, and thanks for updating.
Hope you enjoy the car when it eventually arrives 🙂1
