guy at work has a rottweiler !!!!!!, which fell pregnant a while ago. vet said all was ok, and to expect a litter of at least 4. so didn't have a scan or xray, as happy with the estimate. last night she gave birth to eleven! personally I wouldn't want one, never mind eleven.

As he hadn't had her spayed, he must have wanted lots of puppies.
I don't see the need to have a very powerful dog as a pet. If you want a dog as protection, any large dog like a Golden Retriever or Labrador will defend you if you are threatend. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Big powerful dogs aren’t necessarily for protection. People might just like the look of them and the temperament,
I do like a bull terrier but they are useless as guard dogs or any sort of protection. All mine have been, anyway,All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.7 -
Each to their own.
I have known several rotties that were big softies.
I have judged in a ring with 12 of them altogether and not one grumble- apart from the 'Rottie rumble' .
None of my retrievers would have defended me. tThey would have made friends with the attacker or run away.6 -
I guess choice of dog breed is a personal thing and lots of people would prefer a large dog to a little, yappy dog.I doubt he'll keep all 11 pups.3

All the rottweilers I've known have been complete softies and lovely family pets. None of them have been used for protection, always found them to be really calm and laid back dogsMake £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

Our Lab is daft as a brush, but will protect if she feels threatened, particularly when the kids are around. She doesn't like the window cleaner, and won't let anyone through the back gate until we say so.
The Rottie may have rolled over and broken wind in the above scenarios, but that's about it.Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....5 -
The Rottie would have made the Rottie Rumble, a lovely growl of friendship.1

Rotties are beautiful dogs !
My friends rottie had 11 pups, all beautiful temperament and gorgeous pups.2 -
My friend has 3 Rottweilers. All 3 are like big soppy teddy bears who would happily show any intruders around the house. Her ‘guard’ dog is the little schnauzer who shouts his head off if anyone approaches the property.I’ve had many large breeds including a Dogue de Bordeaux, a Mastiff, a Pit Bull terrier and an Akita. None were for protection. I just prefer how calm larger breeds are compared to small yappy ones. One perk is that ignorant people think ‘powerful dog = dangerous’ so in that sense, they do help keep idiots away.3
