How do you intend using tripod? Indoor studio portraits or rugged over hills and far way landscapes?

I suspect bit of both but if more the latter then weight of tripod will figure, which affects cost due to material used

Most proper tripods come in two parts... the legs and head.

Legs are more complex in a way because it depends if you want small and compact because you'll be walking 10 hours a day carrying it or if you are going to have them in a studio all day you want big and heavy as these are more stable (with the fibre glass treking types you'll often see them hanging their bag on them to add weight/stability when in use).

Heads are heavily dependent on what you are wanting to take shots of... those shooting birds or sport need to be able to move fast (often actually use a monopod instead) whereas still life photographers its about being rock solid... unless its macro in which case some heads allow tiny movements for use with the more exotic macro lenses where focusing is achieved via movement.
