Partridge in garden

Options
We had a partridge in our garden this afternoon - we live in the middle of a medium size town in SW England so were confused where it came from
It sat under a bush, hiding from the rain, for a hour before flying off
It was a big fat bird with bright red legs !
Is this a common occurance ?

We used to get them in our garden in north east England. Wikipedia says the red legged partridge is common in England and even as far north as Sutherland. As long as it's uninjured and can fly, I imagine it will find its way out of your garden at some point.

I wrote to the RSPB about a partridge in the garden when I was a child.  Got a very nice letter back where they combined being enthusiastic to child about birds in general with saying this one wasn't uncommon or interesting by their standards...

If it was well fed, maybe it got blown off course?

We had then breeding around us in Sutherland.

They were also released by the local estate for the benefit of paying guest  shooting parties.

It eventually flew away before our cats saw it!!
