EON FINAL BILL COMPLAINT

2 Years ago l was an Eon customer.  I bit the bullet and decided to have Smart Meters fitted.  The engineer came and did the needful, both fitted to the outside cabinets.  I was told it would take several weeks for them to start registering the readings.  Time passed and l began getting letters asking me to give them my energy readings.  I contacted Eon reminding them that l had there Smart meters fitted.  They gave me 2 possible reasons one being that my walls were too thick for the wifi signal to work, l have a modern built house so that should not have been the issue.  Finally after no joy with Eon sorting the matter and still going outside to read them l moved to Scottish Power as a matter of principle.  On joining SP, l had to sent them my final readings so the could pass them on to Eon.  I did so and notified Eon l had moved and required a Final Bill in due course.  Time passed and over a year later l received a Final Bill. I still had to send readings to SP as they could not do anything with the Eon meters due to the Covid pandemic. I totally forgot about the bill because it took so long to arrive.  Angry that this had taken so long l contacted Eon and after chatting to an advisor who spoke with his supervisor they said as a gesture of goodwill l did not have to pay the bill (£76.44), but it could take 4 weeks to show on the account.  I then started to get letters threatening debt collectors if l did not pay the bill which they added another £10 too for late payment.  l contacted Eon several times and 3 or 4 advisors stated my account showed l did not have to pay and did not know why it had not been done.  After more threatening letters and me calling Eon l had to make a formal complaint to try to rectify the matter.  I was ok about paying my bill when it arrived but because of the gesture was happy for that.  2 or 3 weeks ago an Eon complaints advisor contacted me and stated that my Final Bill was not really a final bill as the gas part was estimated and the Bill was actually over £100 with addons such as late payment and cancellation fee.  He also said he did not know why someone agreed to the goodwill gesture but he would look fully into the matter and call back.  He also said that someone called me to tell me about the new bill, but l said l had been in all-day and nobody called or left any messages, nor had l received any mail explaining the matter which might have been better.  I kind of expect to have to pay, but will be asking for all the addons taken off including a 36 minute phone call being left on hold while the looked into it to be deducted.  l am still left with Eon smart meters which are not that smart.  :)

I have a smart meter too that does not work, will never work and installers knew it would not work but due to government grants given to companies for putting in smart meters they put it in.  I still have to give my readings.

There are no Government grants to fit smart meters. The programme is funded by all energy consumers in the form of higher bills. Ofgem does require suppliers to meet an imposed number of smart meter installations over a given period. Failure to do so results in a fine. What could possibly go wrong?
