O/S Daily Wednesday 28 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy, grey, damp underfoot and looks like rain any moment.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst I'm on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO roast - beef braised in stock, yorkshires, served with roasties, carrots, green beans and gravy - was delicious. Fish for tonight. chips and beans with it for the menfolk, veg with mine.
Yesterday work was busy but not manic to start - then became busier as the day went on. We'll have to see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks nmlc. The sky is full of grey clouds and mist and it's been raining overnight. The garden looks perky though my wonderful hookeri are rather battered and bowed. I had plans to do a washing load though I'll wait for a couple of days.Yesterday was a tad fraught and busy but I got through it. BHF blokes were very very grumpy and they arrived at the same time as two other men came to pick up the Welsh dresser. Alan, bless his heart, did all the heavy lifting of the paintings, moving the furniture which the grumpy men wouldn't take into one room. He did umpteen trios up and down the stairs packing my car with the 48 paintings. He then asked if he could have the wall of racked shelving (which he put up about 25 years ago!), of course I was delighted with that so he set about dismantling it all.I set off for home at about 1pm with a creaking car, it's not used to such loads. 🤣 I haven't unpacked it yet as I need to clear space in the small barn to put them. Maybe not even today. JL are delivering my new mattress between 8-10am so I need to move some boxes out of their way and strip this bed. My new router is arriving by courier too. My BT broadband is rubbish so I've bought a EE router which gives me whizzy bang speed.I have read the thread from yesterday, all your news was so good to read, it keeps me engaged with things outside.Take care everyone, virtual hugs to Maddie and her mum. Happy Wednesday to all.14

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.You are still madly busy Gers, hope all goes to plan today.I'm pleased that your Mum seems to be in good hands Maddie, thinking of you and your family..Glad to hear that your sister has come through her op safely Dumpling, and hope your Mum will be all right.Dp1 your granddaughter sounds hilarious, it's a lovely age isn't it.I've wondered about you swimming in that loch Camelot, but if there's a few of you that's safer.I'm going for a blood test this morning, presumably to see if the level of infection is falling, it must be, my arm just looks lightly tanned now, still a bit plump though.Thank you everyone for your good wishes, very kind.Hope everyone has a good Wednesday, thoughts to the poorly paople.Take care folks.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Sorry you had to endure grumpiness yesterday GERS, some people seem to be in the wrong job Grr to them.
I had another lovely meet up with oldest buddy yesterday, and enjoyed a couple of coffees and then a delicious lunch. And the weather was kind enough to let us sit outside again. The forecast rain finally hit us late afternoon, it was heavy but didn't last long. But long enough to batter some flowers to the ground!
I am gallivanting again today as it's our fortnightly bus trip day., but only two of us today as our 3rd friend is with family celebrating DGS 18th birthday. I think my brolly better come with me as light showers are forecast. There's a wind blowing too so I think more time may be spent over our wining 'n dining lunch rather than ambling round!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones and convalescents. DUMPLING that sounded promising news about your DS. Take care one and all and be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Good morning all; the sun is shining here at the moment.
Had the usual tiring day looking after dgs yesterday; at one point I think we were both trying to doze on the sofa. He bought a peppa pig toy bus with him though and spent most of the time playing with that or playing ball with us.
Today I have an appointment at the tip to drop off the broken wheelbarrow and some garden waste but then my next appointment is with the ironing board! We are away from tomorrow for a few days so need to get everything sorted beforehand. I bet DH is fed up with me saying "we'll deal with that after we've been away".
Later on we are going to an evening geocaching event so will go a bit early and have a meal at the pub. It will be good to catch up with people we haven't seen for about 18 months.
Have a good day everyone.13 -
Morning All
It's raining! First rain we've seen for about 3 weeks although there's not really been enough to give the garden a soak yet. The forecast is for rain later too so had better find something to do inside although I do need to visit the allotment to pick peas and courgettes, there's also plenty of kale which I'm enjoying.
The little one and I had a lovely play at the pool yesterday, there were more people in the little pool and one little girl asked to play with little one's ball, she's very good at sharing but didn't like it when the ball landed near her and splashed her face - she's very dramatic, moaning 'eyes, eyes'. A while until she's an olympic swimmer!
Talking of olympics, congrats to our swimmers, they've done really well.
Hope your Dsis continues to recover dumpling and your Mum is feeling more comfortable.
Have a relaxing day Gers, you deserve it.
Glad your Mum is comfortable Maddie, sounds like the staff are wonderful.
Pleased to hear your arm is healing Scarlett, look after yourself.
Right, must go in the shower and start the day, I had a very good long sleep last night and am struggling to get going this morning. Take care. XX14 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Sorry that those men were so Grumpy Gers, it really does not help especially in your circumstances, is that you home for good now or will you have to go down again?
Yesterday afternoon we both had an appointment with my techie man, DB is getting a new top denture and a partial bottom plate, it was fascinating watching him work. It turned out he was born and lived on a road just round the corner from me, he went to the same infant and junior school. We had a great time reminiscing about shops and people we knew....passed a couple of hours very pleasantly. We should get our new nashers next week. In DB's case I will be very relieved, the ones from the dentist are awful, look like tombstones and do not fit properly. Expensive but well worth the cost. The plate he made me is over 10 years old. So I treated mysef to a new one as well. If you can call that a treat!!
We did have rain in bits yesterday, its sunny this morning, but the wind has changed direction. On the way home we called at the wood yard and bought an arch and picket fencing etc to sperate the garden. Its being delivered next week.
DB is about to go out into the garden. I need to do a freezer dive for tonights supper.10 -
Would you blooming believe it... JL mattress delivery has been cancelled, the van has broken down! 😠 Whilst I am angry there's no point, the man said they were stuck somewhere and didn't know where they were. I understand... now have to make up the bed again. Someone from customer services will phone me in about two hours. It's definitely not my week.I'm breathing - in and out...13

Morning all, we have showers again so no washing will be done, or gardening today and I've just seen lots of leaves falling off the trees, I hope summer isn't over, not yet please.Yesterday didn't go as expected, my nana nap was interrupted so much I gave up, 3x bin lorries and a scrappy man trundled down the street, shouting
I started to declutter the DGC toys as they don't "play" anymore 😞 and only managed to tip a large basket of plastic soldiers/ vehicles into a bag and to the cs bag, I swear they had been breeding as I'd already sent a basket full to the cs. Then Dad called in to have his paperwork sorted, seems there were a huge number of questions to renew his driving licence. While he was here, DD and DGD arrived and DGD didn't stop to take a breath from the moment she stepped through the door. DD later sent us photos of DGS in his new sports kits for comp, he looks so grown up. She had to go to town to the Pretty Miss shop, the "go to" place for uniforms, for the ones that need a badge. I took DD there too, many years ago 😱
Later we settled down to watch a film when DNiece phoned, another one who can talk the hind legs off a donkey and we finally finished the film an hour later than expected. Phew !!Today I want to do more toy decluttering and the art box needs looking at too, DGD doesn't use much of it now as she uses Mr Fix It's art stuff.Right enough wafling, sorry if I've bored you all, I'm even boring myself now 🤣 I started this post over an hour ago but kept getting distracted.Scarlett I hope the blood test shows the anti b's are working.Wicked Lady enjoy your breakTake care all, stay safe. Hugs to the poorly ones.nan xx

Good morning everyone
We have had lots of showery rain here this morning but the sun is shining at the moment.
I had a call from the diabetes nurse and they have reduced my insulin as I am doing so well. I'm really pleased that my hard work is paying off.
Mum rang to say she could go home today once they have sorted out her meds (which will take ages) and she has to rest as her fracture will take around 12 weeks to heal. They have put her on a ward with a lot of ladies that have dementia so she hasn't had any rest through the night and has a new appreciation of the nurses.
Nanny, I used to get my uniform from Pretty Miss when I lived in S Wales, I had a bottle green skirt and jumper and I have never worn that colour since I left school nearly 40 years ago. Some scars are hard to fade.
Gers, I hope your mattress gets delivered soon, how frustrating for you xx
Scarlet, I meant to say thank goodness the medicine worked for your arm, it sounded pretty painful xx
TA enjoy your gallivanting (great word) hope it stays dry for you xx
I am going to make the sauce for spaghetti bolognese in a minute and then my friend is popping in for a quick visit after she has been to see the dentist. Poor woman has an abscess she thinks so will be glad to get it sorted out.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx11 -

It's definitely not my week.I'm breathing - in and out...Got my phone call - the back shift have capacity and will deliver it after 2p.m. They work up until 10p.m. but as that's their finish time and I'm a good 2.5 hours from Glasgow I can expect it before 7.30p.m. I've put the bedding back on the bed just in case.I'm also taken a risk and have the washing load chugging away. It's very blowy here so hopefully the forecasted showers will be short'ish.Whilst upstairs I decluttered one drawer of tops so now have a bag for the CS and a bag for a textile dumpster.GREAT new Dumpling - I'm really so pleased that you are happier and healthier. Well done and fingers crossed for Mum getting home today.Nan - I hope that today is more relaxing for you.Scarlet - more wonderful news about your health. Keep taking the tablets.Csarina - no, I will have one more session at the flat next Friday which should do it.Camelot - I'm loving you taking the little one swimming. Takes me back to times gone past. Our GB swimming team are doing such a grand job. I'm enjoying seeing the faces of the coaches and team manager (many of whom I know from my days at work) actually having such a great time. I don't know any of the new tranche of swimmers but good coaches go on!Right... more boxes to empty whilst I wait for the machine to stop.11
