Non RICS for survey - HICH

Hi all,

Does anybody have any experience of using non rics surveyors? I've found a company called HICH who cover all of the UK whose reviews are very very good on both Google and Trustpilot. Fees are also significantly cheaper - £495 rather for a 4 bedroom house...

I guess, is it a risk to go non RICS? My mortgage valuation is already done and this does seem good value for money... Any one done similar?

Find a local surveyor that has experience of properties in the area. They are far more likely to understand local building quirks and should know what to look for.
You are making the biggest purchase of your life. You should be getting an expert in who knows what they are doing (unless you are an expert yourself). Don't go cutting corners to save a few quid.

I am also considering using their services. Living in rural Wales it's not easy to find a local surveyor.

I presume they're merely intermediaries, so it would be a local surveyor doing the inspection.

Normally it is useful to have an informal chat with the surveyor after the survey, as the reports often make things seem worse than they really are, and are full of get out clauses etc .
I would check in advance if this would be possible.
