Unsure on carpet colour for rooms?

Options
Hi,

I have recently redecorated my bedroom and living room and looking to recarpet them.

They currently have cream walls with silk gloss white skirting. I have also installed white wooden veneer blinds.

I am not sure what colour carpet to go for. I have ordered a new sofa which is dark charcoal so a friend told me to go either darker or lighter than the sofa but around the same colour so either a light or dark grey. He says this is a new modern style theme now white/grey but im not sure I really like that theme but hes telling me im limited with my sofa colour choice.

This is the sofa I have ordered
Any suggestions for colours? Ideally i'd want a darker colour for maintenance purposes but dark grey is almost black and I think its a bit depressing. Not sure a dark browm would work with that sofa.

Can you get a swatch of your sofa fabric?

Paint a page of A4 paper with your paint choice.

Take them both to the carpet shop and hold both to any carpets you like the colour of.

You really haven't limited your choices by choosing cream and grey so far!

Choose something with a bit of warmth to it, even if it is grey.  There is even such a thing as 'greige' which would sit between your grey and cream, tonally.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • I thought I'd be really clever and do a Google images for 'charcoal sofa' to see what room settings they show up in.
Virtually every one is on a wooden floor...
So, there's yer answer (grabs coat...)

(Actually, charcoal with light or medium oak are very tasty combos.)

I did have a look at those too but I much prefer carpet, also being in a first floor flat I dont want to annoy people below walking about 😅

A friendly local carpet shop should let you borrow a pile of swatches for a day or two.

But this may not help if the sofa hasn't arrived yet. (And I wouldn't want to be the person who has to shift that sofa out of the way when the carpet fitters are due to arrive)
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Do take carpet samples home and put them on the floor of the room.
The light from north, south etc can change the colour making it lighter or darker by quite a bit.
Sometimes it can sap the colour out of some shades.
You can find your perfect colour looks quite different.
Sometimes the one you thought was quite wrong turns out to be spot on.
Quick and easy to see when you have them on your flood.
You definitely need a swatch of the sofa fabric if you can for the same reason.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I have a similar colour sofa and a beige carpet. Personally I dislike grey carpets as they’re cold
