Compensation for the Waiting Time

The building work had to start in 3 month from the day I paid a deposit of £1000. However it was delayed and I had to wait for another month. Do I have the right to ask for a discount for the waiting time and inconvenience caused?  Greatly appreciated.

Of course you have the right to ask. Whether they agree or not is a different matter.

What does your contract say? Have you suffered any losses? Having the right to ask the the legal right to compensation are two different things. Inconvenience isn't a loss.

The best time to bring it up is at the end, no point in getting their backs up early doors if you want a decent job.
  • Do you have a written contract and if so what does it say ?

A lot of building work has been delayed due to the pandemic and shortage of supplies, so the builder claiming "exceptional circumstances" is probably a decent reason.

I am afraid I don't have a written contract. So possibly it is not worth it. Thank you very much.

Be very wary of upsetting builders before they start work .

You have a building project for which you don't have a written contract or schedule of works and payment?  You potentially have a bigger problem than the delay.
