Nintendo DS / SIMS 2 pets Help

My DD Nintendo DS sometimes has a black screen freeze on the SIMS 2 pets game when she opens the kennels. Nothing works except for switching off and turning back on again but this means she has lost her game upto here. Is the game/DS faulty? It doesn't happen with any other games.
