The Calder valley is an often forgotten area of Yorkshire/Greater Manchester.  From Sowerby Bridge to Walsden/Littleborough.  Had a friend who lived in Mytholmroyd and really liked it.   Lots of walking, cycling opportunities.

Great rail services to Manchester, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, north west via Hebden Bridge.  Poorer road access as there is one main route.  The valley can suffer severe flooding so check the hsitory of any property you are looking at.

Being a steep sided valley be wary of north facing properties, during winter you may not get much sun.

Useful information on here hopefully but have you tried local facebook sites?
  • The local Facebook pages are covered with people wanting to rent/buy in Todmorden. Houses that have been up for sale for a while are pretty much guaranteed to flood every Autumn/winter. The ones on higher ground are selling fast. Look up the postcode of the street if you’re considering buying a house there, and enter it on the Gov.uk flood risk checker. It’s a lovely town but the flood risk is high in certain areas.

I live in Todmorden and can echo what people have said above that make sure you check if it floods!

Lovely area, have a look at Walsden too which is also on the Manchester/Leeds train link and a short drive from Todmorden. I think you can get a lot for your money round here (considering we're moving out of Tod, you can buy much nicer for less!!) - definitely worth a visit to appreciate it.
