painting wall help

Hi,

I am trying to paint my bedroom walls a different colour. When I moved in they were a horrific shade of turquoise green! Anyway I have currently used primer to cover up this dark green which worked really well, however I am now painting the room a cream colour. My problem is that I have done the edges first as you should with a paint brush but I am now on my 4th layer of rolling and I can still see that the edges are much darker than the full wall so I'm getting that box effect. I'm not sure how to solve this other than keep adding coats but it's taking an extremely long time and I'm not sure my 4th coat has made a lot of difference...

I did have this same issue when using the white primer on the walls but as it was primer I just kept redoing the edges and flats until all the green was gone.

Any suggestions?

It's a good idea to cut in with a brush and then immediately go over it with a roller.  That's the future.

Sometimes the box effect fades. The thicker paint from the brush just takes longer to dry or cure.  Perhaps give it a while?

I agree with Grenage. I use Hamilton Prestige mini rollers for the edges and Hamilton Prestige 9" to paint the mass i.e. different size rollers but with the same pile.
Sorry I can't think of anything profound, clever or witty to write here.

Thanks. Indeed it does look a little better this morning. Still can't tell if it's from the light in the room or the actual paint drying differently. Annoying i'm putting a slightly different shade of white over a white primer so it looks different at different times of the day. I think i'll try another layer tonight and see how it looks in the morning again.

The difference in finish (roller vs brush) will affect the appearance which can also add to the framing effect.  If it's really bad then you can sand the brushmarks and roll over the top, but that's a fair bit of extra hassle.
