Energy companies small but significant extra Charging on switching accounts

I recently switched from OVO who for some reason they made it incredibly hard work
firstly not allowing switch until the account was only in debit for £25

This delayed my switch and I had to go to a different deal and supplier
On providing OVO with final account readings they decided to get the gas readings increased  by an independent assessment
who increased the bill by £6.35
Whilst this does not seem a lot if OVO or any other company can just increase a bill knowing that if the keep it under the industry tolerance level
they get away with it
And we have no right of redress

As I say £6.35 isn’t much in the scheme of things ,
But 100 customers would achieve nice £635 not bad for supplying nothing  and with customers of thousands move every month
I wonder how often this happens with regard all Energy companies
switching should be easy and without cost

It must be said (see below from Igloo )
Igloo have offered to compensate for OVO energy cost increase on the final meter readings which is very good of them as it wasn’t there problem
I would be interesting to see if this adjustment to suit being just under the industry tolerance is carried out by all suppliers to add money to final accounts as a general scam

You do not give the final readings to your old supplier, the new supplier takes care of everything sending your supplied reads for third party verification. That verified read, possibly adjusted, is then used by the new supplier and sent to the old supplier.  As long as the new and old supplier use the same readings and there is, as stated in the communication above, no more than 109 cu m between that and your provided reading you have no cause for complaint as everything has been done in accordance with the legal framework of the relevant energy acts.
Ovo have not added anything to the read to con you out of money, the verified read could well have gone the other way, it is totally out of Ovo's hands

This graphic explains the switching process. Follow the arrows. There is nothing underhand here re the switching process. Note, as previously stated, there is no need for you to contact the losing supplier. The new supplier manages the transfer process.
