EasyJet vouchers are grossly unfair - bordering on a scam

Back in 2019 I made a group booking with EasyJet for my 60th Birthday for April 2020.

Obviously this was cancelled due to the pandemic. While trying to be fair and to help, I accepted vouchers instead of a cash refund. My reasoning was that I normally fly with EasyJet and this would at least keep my money in the company for a year or so and in some way help the companies cashflow.

I recently tried to book the same group booking and lo and behold I am being told at the payment stage that I can only use one voucher per booking. So I have to book each persons flight separately using one voucher. Well, we all know what happens when you try to do this, the price of the flight increases every time you try to book the same flight.

I think this is grossly unfair. Flights are not going down as we have seen from EasyJet's money grabbing abuse of the public when holiday destinations have been put back on the amber list. Some flights being increased by 300%  if you are trying to get home a day early.

Why does the public have to suffer when they have kept their money and their faith in EasyJet. It seems to me that they are a blatantly money grabbing company that has no respect or sense of fairness towards its customers. They are giving Ryan Air a  run for their money when it comes down to horrendous practices.

Id love to hear if there is a ay around this but have only seen that you need to phone EasyJet's customer service and it's a £15.00 service charged per customer. Another dsgusting scam.

You're wrong in thinking that the price increase that you see everytime you make a booking is actually affecting the overall price you pay.

If you make a group booking on Easyjet and it pulls flights from different fare buckets then the system averages out the price per person so each ticket is sold at the same price.

ie. If you were booking two flights and the prices were £50 and £150 then you would be presented with a cost per person of £100 and you would never have been aware of the lower price of one of the tickets.

Don't assume booking each flight individually means higher charges.

If you try and book 9 tickets you may get 9 at the lowest price where 9 are available, thereby missing out on 8 cheaper seats.

It doesn't work like this either.

You ALWAYS get offered the lowest available price seats although as my above post states you may not be aware of it. They used to put the info on their invoices but don't any more although they will if you phone and ask.

But I can't make the group booking can I. This sir the main point of my post that everyone seems to have ignored. I took vouchers and can only use one per booing , therefore I have to make 6 separate bookings.

I've booked flights before, whereby I've booked and then told some one my flight details. They have booked and had to pay a higher price. The whole point of the post was the fact that I can't pay for  a group booking using vouchers from the original group booking.

For your April 2020 planned travel, did you have everyone on one group booking or did you book separately?

    It was a group booking.

But I got seperate vouchers for each person. I assumed, wrongly, that I could use multiple vouchers.

I guess EasyJet can't do right.  If they issued one voucher for the group then people would complain that it was unfair as perhaps some in the group could not travel together on new future flights.  Seems nice that they issued vouchers for individuals who can all use at their leisure on any future bookings - but understand this does not suit you this time.  I think however for the majority of people the individual vouchers would work best.

I don't see this as a Scam. Actually far from it.

If you call EasyJet and explain what you wish to do then they make make the reservation for you.  I believe the telephone fee is waived if it is what they term a "complex" booking or one that can not be done online.

The other option is for you to give each person their refund voucher and have them make their own individual bookings.

    Thanks for your advice.

I guess I'm expecting too much for easyJet to see that I made the booking on one credit card via my easyJet account.  Maybe you are right. Maybe they have to issue singular voucher's but as I paid for every thing I'd have liked to have had the option.
