O/S Daily Monday 26 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but warm start to the day.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst I'm on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast beef, some LO's so that will make another meal. Tonight menfolk will be having breaded chicken portions, chips and beans. I'll be having fish and veg.
Back to work today - manic again no doubt as it didn't really ease off by the end of my working week last week. But being busy makes the day pass quicker.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
When I drove down to Glasgow yesterday I went the longer way to avoid the long long queues along the Loch Lomond road and the terrible traffic jam caused by badly phased lights at a major roundabout. It was really pleasant, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed that way. There's more to do here than I hoped for. Perhaps I won't hit my self-imposed target of all clear by tomorrow, but I'm not going to beat myself up about it. This morning Alan is coming to dismantle my bed as BHF are due at some point to remove some remaining furniture. Tonight I'm staying in an hotel and back here for more tomorrow. One of the upstairs neighbours came down for a wee chat last night. We reminisced about Ursula, the building and happier times. There were plenty of tears, both in joy and sorrow. DM's crossword friend had come round earlier for his final 'goodbye' to the flat. I think he feels much more emotionally attached to it than me.I'll need to do a tip run at some point today, probably when Alan is sorting the bed out. It'll be my duvet and old pillows going out. None of the CS will take duvets, I tried the local cat and dog shelter but no luck - the dogs tend to shred duvets 😱 so I just have to bite that bullet. The weather is cooler and wetter than the last few days. I've seen the news about the London and beyond floods, I hope that you're all safe and dry.Bring back our missing! Thoughts to our poorlies and Maddie for her DM.
Happy Monday to all.14 -
Morning folks and thanks Nmlc for the start. GERS, clearing the home of a loved one is hard enough at the best of times but you have had it much worse because of DM having so much more stuff. Your hotel stay tonight will be a treat.
The sun has got his hat on here and we are promised a high of 24 deg so some bedding is currently getting washed with more to do another day if it keeps fine, although they say we might have light rain tomorrow. It was lovely having the girls again but it was also lovely when DD collected them after lunch!! The house was a tip but I thought blow that and got my feet up for a good while. I got it all tidy but a good vacuuming won't go amiss this morning! In view of still no rain the pots and tubs at the back should get another hosing too. Maybe this afternoon might just find me sitting in the garden reading.
I have a big Tesco delivery later this afternoon. The store cupboards are getting restocked and, as the girls have just about eaten me out of house and home this w/e, the fridge and freezers are also getting replenished. The worst part is putting it all away, I hate that job.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones, as well as our missing. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Good morning everyone
I had very mixed news yesterday. On one hand my sister rang me from Intensive Care and she sounded tired but ok. It was wonderful to hear her voice. She could only talk for a minute but will ring me again today. On the other hand, my youngest sister messaged me to say our mum had somehow fallen backwards in the garden and hurt her back and head so much an ambulance was called. She had xrays done and she has broken a vertebra and may need to be moved to a specialist hospital. We are all very worried but have to wait for more news. I didn't want to call my stepdad as I was sure he would be inundated with phonecalls from my sisters and brother.
The grandchildren are coming over to stay this morning which will be lovely and a welcome distraction. I am expecting them to burst through the door any minute so I must go and brush my hair and brush my teeth. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14 -
Good morning, it's a grey start here, but seems warmish.I haven't posted for a day or two because I haven't been well - on Friday evening I felt more and more unwell as the time passed, shivering, very tired and feeling generally horrible, so went to bed early.Woke up on Saturday morning with my right arm swollen, hot, and dark red from shoulder to wrist. It looked like very bad sunburn. I rang 111 and they said someone from the Urgent Care unit would ring me, they did and asked me to go in for 10.30.Long story short, they took a blood test which revealed a big infection, yet I had no injuries. Any way they sent me home with anti b's, told me to have another blood test on Wednesday at GP's and if it got worse to go straight to A&E.Feeling a bit better now, my arm is still swollen and a bit warm, but the colour is starting to fade. DH reminded me I'd pricked myself with rose thorns in DD's garden on Thursday, so we wondered if if could be that.Glad you managed to speak with your sister Dumpling, but sorry about your Mum.Hope everyone has a good Monday anyway - take care folks13

Morning All
Gosh Scarlett, that sounds scary, hope the anti-b's do their job quickly. One of my neighbours had a similar thing with her leg, ended up in hospital for 2 weeks, she has no idea what caused the infection.
Lovely morning here, the bedding is on the line, towels will go in once I've had a shower. I've just been for a swim in the loch which was beautiful, thinking of those who lost their lives here over the weekend.
Nearly there Gers, it's been hard work for you but glad you have happy memories.
Sorry to hear of your Mum's accident dumpling, pleased to hear your sister is doing ok.
Hope to hear from those missing from here soon, thinking of you all.
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Dumpling I hope you hear good news re your sister and Mum today, pleased your leg is a bit easier.
Gers...... enjoy your hotel stay, you are almost at the end of a very stressful period, R & R for a while whilst your body and mind deal with the stress you have been under. Sit in the garden with a book and enjoy the wonderful scenery where you live.
So.. its quite cool this morning for which I am very thankful, by Friday I had enough of the sun coupled with putting up the greenhouse. Thankfully on Saturday the door rollers we ordered from Amazon arrived and have been fitted, as have the shelves. The replacements from Halls have still not arrived they were supposed to have been posted on Wednesday.
Sorry its so big.
Laundry on, not so much this morning have been doing a small wash mid week whilst it has been so hot. Its quite breezy so should dry fairly well.
The garden we went to yesterday was lovely, there had been a few changes. I found a really sweet pale blue clematis, got the name and I have ordered one. Of course I had 5 plants fall into a bag, but at £1 each it would have been rude not to, I am putting a padlock on my spending money purse, I have a lot of plants to put in once we get some of the shrubs cut back, which may be sooner rather than later. We are going to have to spend some time on the front garden, its a bit of a mess. Just now the ground is too hard to even contemplating digging.
Supper tonight is cold gammon and salad and of course raspberries for dessert.9 -
Morning all dog walked and WM is on DW has been emptied maybe this week some of the trades will come to give us a quote getting a bit fed up now of being let down and getting nowhere fast I am not worried about the wait after we have agreed the price but just getting them to quote seems a nightmare in itself.
Dumpling wonderful news about your sister ,what a shock re your mum I hope you have some news about her today
Gers Just keep it slow and steady as long as you have taken everything you wanted remember the new owner said they would dispose of anything that was left x
Right better get a shifty on big wave to all our MIA's I hope you are all doing ok
Hugs to all those with poorlies and those with worries . Stay safe whatever you are up to today xxSlava Ukraini9 -
Good morning everyone, bit dull here & cooler.Gers- nearly there, it's always such a hard task.I'm sure your mums crossword pal misses the company too. Hope you can relax at the hotel tonight.Scarlet, that sounds scary, hope the ABs work well.Dumpling, poor mum, hope she recovers well. Good for you to speak to your sis sounding bright.Hugs to Maddie & mumCamelot, I thought of you when I saw the news, there seem to have been a lot of people drowning in the hot weather, so sad.TA - I'm another who has to stock up after DGC ( and their Dad!) have been.Saturday followed the usual pattern, going watching DGS playing football. As they're still so young they do 5 a side on a small pitch, but we enjoy going, the other parents/Gparents are such a lovely set of people, and DGD has a kick about with her Dad on the sidelines. Back to DS after for a drink and a bite to eat. Since he moved into his own house we have a bit more time to ourselves at weekends, though I do miss them staying over sometimes. School hols now so I'm sure my services will be called upon anyway.Yesterday DH & I went to Bents Garden centre a few miles away.We had a sandwich and a scone , and had a mooch around. The food hall/deli had a big queue for the till so we didn't bother with that, but DH bought a couple of books & I checked out the craft section. Not sure what we'll be eating tonight but I'm having a stay at home day so plenty of time to sort that out. I'm determined to make a few cards for my stock & try out my new diecuts. You all take care x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning all
Dry and bright here which is so nice after yesterday when the rain did not stop all day ! OH and I took little pup out for a walk and got soaked but she loved it which is the main thing.
I have got a wash load on the go mainly t-towels I seem to have used every t-towel in the house over the weekend, will hang it out once its done.
The heating element in the dw seems to have gone kaput so we need to order a new one and hope that OH can fit it, the dw is only about 3 years old it seems nothing is made to last these days !
We ended up having Greek salad and chips for dinner last night so I will cook the chicken for tonight with some mash and salad.
Dumpling I am so glad you have spoken to your sister and I am sorry to hear of your mums fall xx
Scarlett ouch that sounds nasty, look after yourself and lots of rest xx
Gers I hope all goes well today xxx
Have good days all xxx9 -
Morning everyone
Well I was going to get on with some cleaning this morning but have been distracted by Amazon! I was looking for a bag that straps onto the front of my bike but also has a shoulder strap - rather than shove my bag into the wicker basket as I do now.
I found several to put into my wish list - might ask for one from mam and dad for my birthday.
I've had a nice chat with DD - it's her 25th birthday today. She's been in Sweden for a few days, staying with one of her friends and has had a lovely time. A few of them are going out for a birthday lunch and then she flies back to Germany tonight.
Gers - it must feel very sad for you and for your mum's crossword friend and neighbours too. Enjoy your sleep in a hotel bed tonight.
Dumpling - good news about your sister but not about your poor mum.
I had a lazy afternoon in the sunshine yesterday - though one set of neighbours was even louder than usual! Later on I went to a park about 20 minutes drive away with DD and little one. It was very quiet at that time so she had a great play - she loves it when we play on the equipment with her. She was determined to climb a rope ladder and slide down a tall slide, because she had watched a boy probably about 7 or 8 do it. DD tried to reason that she was too small but no - 'me is big nuff mummy.'
DD helped her up the ladder and I balanced halfway up the slide. Her little face was determined - then it was 'look me can do it!' She didn't want another go though and went on the smaller slide instead. I pointed out to DD that she's exactly the same as she was aged 2!
Well I'd better get on. Hope everyone has a good day10
