Asking for a friend who is looking to potentially move to the Northamptonshire/Buckinghamshire area for a reasonable commute into London by train and Cambridge by road. They’re coming from the west midlands so have no clue about the area and are currently at the beginning of a rental period so no opportunity to try before they buy in the area.
They’ve viewed a property to buy in Towcester off the Burcote Road, seems nice. High street okay. But what’s the real lowdown from locals on the area, places to avoid, etc?
Same question if anyone is from the Northamptonshire/Buckinghamshire area - where’s good/not so good? Thanks

Quite a lot of the area between Milton Keynes and Banbury/Bicester is relatively poorly served by public transport, which likely means driving to MK for the train to London. That might be fine but it's not for everyone.0

Milton Keynes would be better than Towcester for those commutes. The rail line between Oxford and Cambridge is being upgraded so a train commute from MK to Cambridge will be possible at some point in the future.

Thanks for the comments. They’re happy to travel to get the train as it won’t be every day, so looking for a house with a decent garden / bit of land. Does anyone know Towcester to comment on what it’s like?0

Towcester main roads are very very busy0

You could look at the Huntingdon or St Neots area. On main line to St Pancras and about 30 minutes drive to Cambridge.0

I was brought up and have family in the West Mids and have lived in Bedford, Northampton and now Rugby. Personally I hated Bedford and when we bought I preferred the feel of Northampton as I found it a more akin to the West Mids rather than a commuter town. Where in the West Midlands do they currently live and what do they like about that area? What's important to them?
Have they considered Kettering? Trains into St Pancras and on the A14 for easy (as easy as the A14 can be!) drive to Cambridge.0
