This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks.
So many have had storms and rain, I hope it's all stopped now. It's still very sunny here though the forecast is for dull and warm over the next few days. I've enjoyed reading about grandchildren visiting and their pleasures.Yesterday I had another day of mostly idleness. Watering the garden first thing was as physical as I got. Apart from filling two more bin bags from my small barn and putting new laces in my everyday shoes I mostly relaxed. Even my phone call to BT about DM's account was smooth. The phone line and broadband account will be discontinued from Friday. I also spoke with my car insurance company to switch my address back to my own, again an easy process once I'd given up on phoning them and used their 'live chat' option.Today I'll be driving back down to Glasgow for my final overnight stay there. It's a weird feeling, a difficult mixture of relief that things are so close to being finished and sadness about DM. However...she was so happy there for over 40 years and the new owner was so keen to secure the flat and should be equally happy there too.I'm not taking much with me though I have to remember a couple of teabags, DM's crossword friend is visiting this afternoon. 😀Happy Sunday to all.14 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Drizzly here but we will probably move again today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning all; dull and drizzly here also.
Quiet day planned today. DH is going out so I will do some music practice whilst the house is empty and maybe make some small cakes. I've taken some duck out of the freezer and will have that tonight with couscous and pak choi.
Yesterday I cut the grass in the front and the back but have had to make an appointment to drop it off at the tip as our green bin collection has been suspended until further notice. Apparently several operatives are isolating so this may go on for a while.
Have a good day everyone.13 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting us off. Safe drive back down and have a lovely catch up with DM's crossword friend. He will be missing her company every Saturday. It's a cloudy start here but still quite warm and snippets of blue are emerging but no rain forecast yet. NAN another rain dance is needed please, the gardens need it.. I have a full load of washing on the go so that will get pegged out when its finished.
I had all 3 of the DGDs here last night. Eldest came up for tea, then left for a 2 hour shift in one of her p/t summer jobs, then back again to sleep. Bobi Bunnykins had been fed and watered and safely back in his cage but she will pop down home to give him his breakfast when she's had hers! They are all still in the land of nod so I am tip toing about being as quiet as I can. More of the nice smokey bacon has been requested for brekkie so another pack is defrosting in readiness.
They are not bothered about roast dinners so sausage and mash with onion gravy and Yorks puds is on the menu for lunch. DD will be coming to collect them early afternoon. It's lovely having them again but I had forgotten what hard work it is with the neverending meal making and the constant loading and unloading of the dw!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, woeful and convalescing. Take care one and all x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning all,
lovely to read all your news, it is calming for me as my OCD is rearing its ugly head and it’s exhausting. Anyways, enough about that,
Going to have a restful Sunday of crochet and watching golf/olympics on tv.
Take care all.

Good morning everyone
It's quite warm here, enough to have the fans on to feel comfortable. We are expecting an Asda delivery anytime between 9 and 1 so Steve will wait to take the dogs out until after it's been delivered.
I had great news yesterday, my sister managed to text me and she also rang her husband and my mum. She says she feels like she's been hit by a bus and couldn't believe it was already Saturday but she has been out of bed for a little walk. It was so wonderful to hear from her. She is still in intensive care but hopefully will be moved to a ward either today or tomorrow. The CT scan showed no leaks but she did have a chest infection for which she is on antibiotics.
I am feeling a lot better today as well. My leg seems to have stopped leaking for now and feels a lot less sore. My blood sugars are now into single figures which is amazing. My diabetes nurse is going to be so pleased. I have just had a bacon sandwich and feel very full now so it will be egg salad for lunch. I am planning on making a steak and potato pie for dinner but I will just have some of the filling as I am not bothered about pastry. I am enjoying being back in the kitchen although I still need help with the fetching and carrying.
Gers, I am thinking of you with your last visit to your mum's flat xx
TA, the grandchildren eat us out of house and home as well, I wouldn't have it any other way though xx
Wicked-Lady, your meal sounds delicious xx
Hester, good luck with the move xx
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx14 -
Morning everyone
TA - I bet it was lovely having your grand daughters back to stay.
I had my little great nephew for the day on Friday - he's 4 - the weather was gorgeous and we had a lovely day together. We built 'the best house ever' with duplo, played in the garden , went to the nearest field to play football and to the park. He did ask whether I could run better when I was young!
We picked little one up from nursery as DD had an appointment so they had a ride on the bus and an hour in the garden together before they were both picked up.
Then I had my tea and a very peaceful sit outside with my book!
When we were at the park we could see a boat that makes trips along the river and into the sea...he said ' I'd like to go on that boat one day' - so I said I'll book us onto it one day. 'How about tomorrow?' was the reply. We'll maybes go next week, depending on the weather.
Yesterday, I managed to get the grass cut both front and back so it looks a lot better now. I'm going to treat myself to a new lawn mower, as mine doesn't have a box on the back to catch the grass cuttings - it takes ages to rake all the bits up.
I'd better move as I'm going down to mam and dads this morning to do dad's laptop jobs while mam is at church.
Hope everyone has a good day14 -
Morning All
Fairly dull this morning but should brighten up later. There's a dark wash on the line that doesn't involve any ironing so that can be put away later.
Keep meaning to ask RR - how's your sister doing?
Hope dumpling's sister is recovering well.
Busy weekend for you TA, nice that they all want to be with you.
Your last trip Gers, a bittersweet time for you.
I've just taken friend's DD to work, they had a well deserved night away last night. Lovely to see the village so quiet as it's been horrendous for the last few weeks with visitors who all seem to make a mess.
Nothing planned today, should really go shopping but I can't be bothered - I'll not starve!
Happy Sunday, take care. XX14 -
Good morning,
Sun coming out now, forecast to be 25 today. I used all the water in the water butts and as the promised rain did not happen OH filled them with the hose for me yesterday.
No change re mum and sadly one of my lovely neighbours is also poorly in hospital, moved from ICU to ward, so fingers crossed for her.
OH and I both shattered yesterday and ended up with cheese omelets and mixed salad for supper, really hit the spot.
Gers it will feel very strange for you when you finally lock the door to your DM's flat, it is lovely that she was so happy there for so long, a good omen for the new owner hopefully.
peony I hope that you have a quiet and low stress day.
TA lovely having the young ones back, feet up later I hope.
WickedLady I am envious of your ability to make music, enjoy your "me time"
Hester hope the move goes well and you don't have too far to walk today.
Snoozer fingers crossed that Steve is feeling better today.
Hugs and spoons to all, thinking of dumpling, her sister, Marie, Poppy, Nels and everyone poorly or struggling. Take care.
OH has been glued to the cycling on TV, will give him a nudge and see what he is wanting to do today, some gardening for me ready for green bin on Tuesday and I fancy a walk via the lovely café by the river for a coffee, but think it will be too far for DearDog, happy to go on my own though.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)14 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and set in for the day I think, I have a wash on the go but it will have to go in the td today. I went out to a local tiny garden centre yesterday, its just a local woman that sells plants from her garden really but she has great prices and a good seletion, I got a few new plants but wont be putting them in till the rain stops !
We managed our bbq yesterday evening it was glorious sitting out in the sun and we shared a bottle of wine. We had pork fillet and chicken kebabs with jersey royals which I boiled then put in foil with garlic and butter and finished off on the bbq, and a big salad it was lovely !
Will get little pup out for a good walk later, big pup is still on lead walks for now but is doing so well.
Camelot my sis is doing ok but is fed up not being able to drive anywhere or being able to do much, she wont know for up to a year if she will get full use back of her finger but we are hoping she does or it will affect her job etc.
I have chicken to cook later will do some kind of potatoes and salad with it so nice and easy.
Dumpling Im so gld you have heard from your sister and that she is doing well xxx
Gers its going to be a strange day for you, but your dear mum was so happy there and hopefully the new lady will be too xxx
Love to Nels xxx
Have good days all xx13
