Hi all,
At the beginning of this year my wife started up her own wax melt business, and is doing ok. She wanted to branch out and has an idea that will go with her brand selling pick & mix sweets.
Where do we start on this? We are going to buy them wholesale and just repackage and send out, but we are not sure what rules there are.
thanks

You could start off by looking at this government info https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/starting-a-food-business-from-home
It's about food generally but has some good information. Your wife should also be thinking about registering with HMRC as self-employed if she hasn't done so already.
There's a lot of information about selling foodstuffs on the internet, you only have to google.
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. She is already registered with HMRC so thats all good. Just wondered if she needed a food hygiene cert for repackaging the sweets.
We have a clean area already so thats not an issue

Hi, She will need to hold a food hygiene certificate, undergo allergen awareness training and register as a food business (inspections are very delayed at the moment so probably wont be inspected for a while). She will need to fill in the Safer Food Better Business pack for Retailers and start to record and keep the documentation needed in there. Basically its all around food hygiene and allergens and minimising risk to the public. Your Environmental Health Officer will be able to help and are mostly friendly.
