I'm a new Starling Bank customer. Applied / opened an account last Saturday and since then have had play around with the app to get myself familiarised with it. I've done a few test money transfers in / out and all's good. The card arrived Wednesday morning and I'm very pleased with experience so far............ apart from one thing, and that's logging in to Starling's online banking facility.

I've found that when trying to log in to the online banking page, I'm not getting the link sent to the app on my phone in about 8 out of ten instances. Other times it takes a long time to appear in the app. Sometime the app times out before any link arrives.

It's unreliable as to whether I'm able to log ion or not.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox and also Safari. Both have the same results.

I'm interested to hear other's experience of using Starling's online banking. Is it just me possibly or is the online banking a bit flakey?
Any ideas to what I can do to improve things??

I've only used online banking once and had no issues. I think it's quite a new feature, so may not be up to scratch.

    Thanks for the replies.
Since posting my original post, I cleared all cookies / cache relating to Starling Bank. I thought I'd cracked it as on my first attempt logging in under Safari, it worked fine was very quick. I tried using Firefox and it was the same as it was in my original post, slow in sending the OTP links etc. Went back again to Safari and it too was again slow to send the link to the phone.

I know the app will do everything required, however I would like t access the online banking facility as intended i.e. quickly.......

I generally use the app rather than online, and I generally use Chrome and very occasionally Firefox. Never use Safari.

When I have logged in online, it was all relatively quick - though I find it utterly annoying that I have to type in my mobile number for each logon, and remember/look up my account number unless I want to store it in a cookie.

I have just tried logging in on Chrome - worked instantly. Same in Firefox. I didn't see any OTP code - I had to log into my Starling app, scan a QR code on the laptop, and was then logged in. All complete in less than 20 secs, incl my think time.

I am using Windows and an iphone, and am on WiFi on a Plusnet broadband connection. What are your gadgets and networking?
  • I don’t think I’ve ever logged in online, I do everything I need to do with the app.

Well, things appear to have improved!

I've found that once I've inputted my account number and tel number and I get the "check for a notification on your phone or in the Starling app…" message,  if I toggle from the app's home screen to the card details screen and back to app home screen I get the notification to open my phone's camera and I can then scan the QR code to give me access to online banking.  The process only takes a very short time.

Obviously I'll be using the app mostly, at least I now know that if I do choose to use the online banking facility, I can log in quickly.

    Thanks again for the replies!
