I believe they are going to try and collect the payment with my next monthly rental by direct debit1

End your direct debit and pay them manually next month, at the usual rate.
And maybe consider telling them in writing that you are taking the dispute to the BVRLA, will pay them for the notice you are contractually required to do but are leaving and finding another lease firm as this is a deal breaker if a professional vehicle hire firm doesn't understand that this law doesn't apply in Scotland and this was never their liability in law and certainly not their business to pay. Their t&cs don't even let them pay these on behalf of the driver!
Tell them you won't be paying the PCN they've paid in error that was never their liability whatsoever and which they'd transferred to you to appeal/pay (as is correct) on the one hand, then irrationally on the other hand, decided to just pay. If they want you to reconsider removing your business from them you expect to hear from them with a better and more considered response by return.
If they backtrack you can easily set up a new DD and carry on, having established to them NEVER to pay a private PCN and always to transfer to you.
This might call their bluff and still leaves you with options.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

And if by chance they have already used the Direct Debit arrangement to take that money, refer to the Direct Debit Guarantee and insist your bank refunds it.2
