This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning folks.Yesterday was spent between sitting reading and removing clutter from the small barn. It was too hot to do anything physical for any length of time. There's now two bags of rusted bird feeders, empty suet ball boxes etc all ready to go out. My painter called in to collect his paints and brushes so that made it a bit easier too.Last night I came across a packet of some of my papers which were tucked away. In amongst various letters, cards and assorted other was my little blue notebook in which I recorded my first eight week trip to and around Australia 1979-80. It was fascinating, even though I had forgotten a lot of it just reading about my adventures brought it all back, along with a rush of happiness. Ah, the joys of youth!I've already been out in my pyjamas to water the garden, I didn't get round to it yesterday so the plants had their tongues hanging out 🤣🤣 Now I'm back on my bed with a coffee listening to Tony Blackburn, more memories of a bygone time.I hope that the forecasted storms for the south pass over and that everyone is safe.Happy Saturday to everyone.12

Morning! Guess what? Yes! Hammering down! Water butts will be filling nicely...One of them was completely empty and the pots won't need watering now....We had a power cut yesterday just after we got up and by the time it came back on, I was on a roll of doing things. I filled the car, trawled around looking for more, riddled a bit, watered the tomatoes, DW and WM set of when it came back on, then I started with the toilet wall cabinet. For someone who doesn't wear make up very often,my cupboard seemed to be full of it. Not any longer. I also found quite a few of those slap on mask things, so I did a charcoal peel off one, then a moisturing one and then found a pack of mositurising booties for my feet, so they were done too. Still more to use up but at least I've stopped 'one-day' ing with that kind of thing. The day is now! Then I ruined the last one by riddling in my bare feet. Oh well...Today OH is playing games with his friends and I am going to an event of sorts. Depending what I see when I go inside will determine whether I stay or not. Masks = I will be staying, no masks = I won't. There's one thing in particular I want to see and that starts at one [ co-incidentally, just afer OH needs dropping off, how convenient eh? ] , after that I don't really need to stay. Better take my stick too, my ankle feels a bit dodgy today. I have to do some rearranging of things in the garage because I need to cut out my sisters pulley ends before Monday. Other than that,no plans.dumpling, hope you get some positive news of your sister soon. Gers, sounds like you have lovely neighbours! TA, look out! you're going to be making that bake willy nilly from now on, they just can't get enough of it! snoozer, hope steve perks up today. Maddie, sorry about your mum. Rosy, what an accolade!! they're just so easy and much nicer homemade
Ruby, I am lately disocvering a little patch of hair on my eyelids! weird isn't it...Nanny, hope you got your bit of rain...Right, off to make another cuppa, changed the filter yesterday and descaled the kettle so the water tastes lovely again and Imust take advantage....Have a good day if you can folkses, be good to yourselves and be excellent to each other...:) [ Directly quoted from BIll Preston and Theodore Logan ]

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy and air is cooler for the start of the day. Rain is forecast much later in the day.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit and DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was chicken stir fry - which we all enjoyed for a change, tonight menfolk, will have breaded chicken steaks with chips and I'll be having either gammon or salmon with either veg or salad. I was pleased yesterday as I managed to get another of the fruit and veg boxes for £1.50 - and there was a good selection of fruits and veg, in mine I got (if I can remember everything) 3 courgettes, 2 aubergines, 3 jacket potatoes, 8 bananas, 8 fresh apricots, 3 x bags of fresh radishes, 2 x green peppers, hand full of asparagus, 2 x limes and 2 x peaches - none of it was that far gone it couldn't be used. We'll definitely be getting our 5 a day!
Yesterday I was a busy bee and I did get done everything on my list - but I was tired last night - I've definitely lost some of my fitness over the lockdown where we've not been able to get out as much. I'm going to have a look into picking up some sort of exercise again as I do enjoy it.
Today will be a day of doing a few more jobs.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all; it's definitely cooled down here and I might have to wear a cardi today!
We had a lovely bbq at DD's yesterday and it was good to see DH's older sister, even though she was almost 2 hours late arriving due to traffic! She hadn't allowed nearly enough time and got caught up on the motorway. Anyway, we have brought some burger buns and bits home to finish off so I'll have to buy something to go in them today.
Much cooler here today so I might cut the grass. I also have ironing to do and want to watch the rugby at 5pm.
Have a good day everyone.11 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all those in need.
Beano went to the vets yesterday, had his jabs, his claws clipped and his skin checked. He definitely has an allergy and not mites or anything, he has a prescription to help him and in £116 lighter. The promised rain has arrived so it's a lot cooler here.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.10 -
Morning, how wonderfully refreshing it is to have rain!
Maddie, sorry to hear about your dear mum, thinking of you both.
Gers, how lovely to find a notebook about your travels, I am afraid that I never was organised enough to keep a written travel journey. Although I have many memories I am sure that I am now beginning to mix some of my travels up in my head.
Csarina, have you been able to complete the installation of your greenhouse?
Today is an indoor day. Now it is cooler I can get on with tidying up the junk room....I seem to acquire a lot of newspapers and general recycling, none ours! Both sets of parents have daily ‘The Times’ and as all three are now disabled/housebound, it is easier for us to collect and put in our recycling.
Also, I did an inventory of the freezer the other day. Now I need to do the food cupboards, and then do the meal planning. I can see a lot of lentil meals coming up.
I hope you all have a lovely Saturday.
Take care all.

Morning folks and thanks GERS for kicking off. The busy days must surely be coming to an end soon. TAFF what an excellent quote.
The girlies are still in the land of nod and I expect them to remain so for a while yet (late night!) Some lovely smoked bacon awaits them when they surface for breakfast. It may well end up Brunch depending on what time that is as youngest has a Zoom dance lesson at mid-day and that will commandeer the kitchen till 1.30 It covers ballet, tap and character dancing. I shall be prepared this time! Last time I had no idea how long it would go on for and I was almost gnawing the table legs! A hard floor is needed so it was a toss up between the kitchen and bathroom (and I can't do with that out of bounds so long!!) The Bolognese sauce is simmering away as I speak, then the famous Pasta Bake can be made up and ready and waiting for tea.
Youngest (10) had her last day at primary school yesterday and came with all sorts of goodies to show me, including a film with recorded messages from their teachers and shots of their progress through school from nursery upwards, snippets of concerts, school trips etc. Oh how young and innocent they all looked in nursery! It will be lovely to look back on when she is old and grey! I've still got the autograph book which marked the end of my time at junior school before moving up to grammar. All the teachers will be long gone now and I rarely see any of my classmates from those days (other than my oldest buddy who has put up with me now for about 68 years since we first met at junior school when we were 7)
I was hoping the rain forecast for further south would find its way up here but it seems you are hogging it again so the hose will be out later. They say we will have rain Tuesday onwards - which won't know when to stop!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, woeful and convalescents. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning All
No rain here, more still, warm weather although the sun hasn't broken through yet. It took until about 2pm yesterday to see the sunshine then it was hot again.
Our swim in the loch was quite short as it was cold but the little one enjoyed her dip. We sat on the beach after to have a picnic and throw sticks in the water. It was lovely to be there with no-one else about and enjoy the spectacular views.
I went for a massage last night, it was brutal! I feel all battered and sore this morning but I'm sure I'll feel the benefit tomorrow. Now if only I could see someone about the midge bites, never usually have a problem with midges but this year they have left their mark all over, I woke up in the night and had to take anti-histhamine and put cream on.
Hope your sister is more comfortable this morning dumpling.
I love reading through travel journals Gers, glad you had some happy memories.
Enjoy the pasta bake TA.
Hugs to you Maddie.
Hope you all have a good Saturday, take care. XX

Morning, hugs if you need one.........Yes the greenhouse is up apart from the door, we are waiting for a new set of runners. The roof light, louvered window and glass was put in yesterday, not without a bit of head scratching. The gardener and M worked on it
DB managed to fall over his feet, so he spent the afternoon under house arrest, only being allowed to walk up the garden to inspect it when it was finished.
I did manage to dead head the roses etc yesterday morning, had to use the long loppers on the compassion rose it had grown so tall. I need to have a quiet week this coming week, pain killers have been too big a feature this week.
Dumpling, I hope you get some good news re your sister. Gers.... how nice to find your details of your travels round Australia. DB always took a large note book when we went on our travels, we have several books with details of all the trips we have made to the US, France, Malta and Jersey as well as trips here in the UK.
It was a much cooler day and last night I put the duvet back on the bed, so the patchwork quilt is now folded over the bottom of the bed again.
Its cloudy and quite a strong breeze this morning, if it does not rain I will have to water the pots tonight,
I have soaked a smoked gammon joint overnight, will cook it this morning, we will have it tomorrow with new potato's green beans and parsley sauce.
Supper tonight will be salad of some sort, not sure what with yet.7
