    Back to OPs original problem.

Either you keep the ‘ping’ setting on and getting pinged means you know you may be at risk or you turn it off and you don’t have that information. Something that should be discussed in advance with the people you are caring for.

being pinged doesn’t legally force you to isolate, you may choose to ignore it or to take extra precautions like not visiting or keeping your distance.

  • Thanks guys, I was able to get temporary care while I awaited my covid test which was negative. So I then went back to being carer and resumed normal life.

Something did puzzle me though why hubby's app didnt ping as I thought concidering my app pinged his would ping as his phone has been near mine for long periods. Or doesnt it work like that?

No it wouldn't as you didn't have a positive test.
The person you came into contact did, so you got pinged.

I think sweetgirl was asking why her husbands phone wasn't within 2m (or whatever criteria are) of the orginal contact.
I am guessing that because we are talking relatively small distances then it's possible for one person to be within say 1.8m and another 2.1m i.e. the phones were a slight distance apart.

But the system only notifies if you have come in contact with someone who tested positive, as sweetgirl did not test positive her husband was then never notified.

I know, but if sweet girls husband was stood next to her wherever they went, then why didn’t her husbands phone ping from the same original contact?

we are not asking why the husband didn’t get a ping resulting from sweet girl.
we are asking why he didn’t get a ping from the contact that sweetgirl got a ping from.

my guess is that his phone was a little further away from the contacts phone than sweetgirl’s phone noting that it’s the location of the phone that is key here. Many of us ladies put our phones in handbags which sometimes go on a different chair around a table, so phones are not always co-located with their owners especially when we are talking about small distances.
    But it is a guess.

There are a whole bunch of reasons, but a simplified explanation would be that being based on signal strength which in a real world situation is a very poor approximation for distance it could be something as simple as his phone was in his left pocket, not his right, which meant that it was shielded by his body, reducing the strength which means that the distance was approximated as being further away.

The simplest answer is that his Bluetooth signal was weaker than hers (or non-existent if he turned off Bluetooth), we can guess as to the exact reasons, but the signal being weaker is the only specific reason we can be sure of.

She never mentioned that they both went to the same orignal contact, just that their phones are often near each other.

So I understood it as she went out to see a friend, who later tested positive, when she is at home her phone is close to her husbands phone.
It wasn't mentioned that husband also went to see the friend.

    ok, thanks.
I agree with you that his phone wouldn't ping as a result of her ping.
  • Thanks guys, sorry I was just under the impression seeing as my app has pinged, it makes another phone close by also ping, like a domino affect, but now I know it doesn't work like that.
