Im looking to see if anyone can give me advice. My friend has sold her house and the profits from the sale have went missing. Her solicitors sent her money to NC&I (her savings account via the government) NC&I hva enow said they dont know where the money is, however they think they have transferred it back to her lawyer but said they cant confirm this but that it may take 2 weeks to clear?? this cant be right can it?? its £130,000?

When was the money sent?0

So what exactly is your question here?0

If they sent it to an incorrect account number it would bounce back but it can take a while to appear back in the account. So, has the solicitor provided a copy of the deposit acknowledgment? Ultimately it is the solicitors problem, unless of course your friend gave them the wrong details. If the money has been paid into the wrong account, i.e. a correct account number but not the intended one, then it may well be lost for good. Then it will depend on whose fault it was, solicitor or friend?0

apparently it was one digit off (solicitors fault) and so they said it bounced back. However before that, they said they had received the money and transferred it in error somewhere else and that they would remedy. She has been told several different conflicting things.
basically they are saying it bounced back to the solicitor and that it could take 14 days to go to her account, but could take up to 8 weeks?? her solicitor has said she gave the right reference number and definitely hasn't received the money back and that there isn't anything she can do.
i suppose my question is if NC&I are saying they dont have it and her solicitor is saying the same, where does this legally leave my friend?0 -
Assume you mean NS&I?
As she’s been told such different things by them I would start by asking to speak to someone more senior there and asking them to confirm exactly what’s happened from their perspective (ask questions until she’s completely clear on what they’re saying). At the moment she doesn’t actually know what should be happening next.It would also be helpful if she could reply here herself so it’s not Chinese whispers with you passing on what they say to her.0
