AA terms of recovery

Because my daughter's carvfailed to start in the Lake District I had to take out an AA policy to get assistance for her. I have no complaints about paying for it but now they have said the car cannot be repaired until next Tuesday and that national recovery will cost £2.50/mile, totalling £600+ or so, because she is a "new member". I was told absolutely nothing about this when joining. Her alternative is to find accommodation until then, highly unlikely at this time of year. It's a pretty stressful situation for her!

This is the risk you take by not getting cover before there is a problem.

Not unusual no cover ,breakdown then buy some sort of cover that often the wrong one .
New member terms yes as nobody would join and just wait until they broke down .

Do you think that they are that daft? No one would become a member until the need arose. An expensive lesson learnt.
