LiveDrive BEWARE

Don't know if anyone else used to use LiveDrive for backup but has moved away?
If you do, you will find that you cant access any of your files anymore because they have been converted to "LD File" format and you have to sign up again to be able to access them..
LiveDrive offered a few days to download all my information but it doesn't change the file type back to it's original format. There may be some clever way to do this but it isn't obvious so be warned. Don't use LiveDrive unless you plan to pay for the rest of your life...

  • Sounds like ransomware :)
Another great example of vendor lock-in.

I used to use an Acronis backup solution that had its own proprietary file format. I setup incremental backups from my desktop. One of the incrementals broke (corruption?) and I lost 6 months worth of backups.

I'm older and wiser now. I handle my own fully redundant backups and if I were to use a third party, I wouldn't use one that didn't rely on open standards.

If you have data that you care about, it is very much worth while doing the research and avoiding the eggs-in-one-basket approach.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?
