Rear brake drums, removal to check/dust out.

In 5 years of main dealer servicing, it seems this is no longer done, is this normal? Always did this yearly when I diyed.

    Why?
    This is unnecessary maintenance, along the lines of unnecessary oil changes mentioned in another thread earlier this week.

    When they start displaying an issue
    Funnily enough, did the daughters Mii drums the other rmonth when the handbrake started sticking.
    That's the first time they've been done in probably 8 years.

    Personally I think it's good to remove the drums check for wear, check the wheel cyclinders for leakage and put a small spot of grease / oil on the handbrake mechanism to save it from seizing. Ignored for every service and the rear drums will become inefficient etc. I have a quantity of old cars and brakes are the essential !

    With Ford the drums come off every 4 years - the wheels only come off every 2 years.

    Where there was only 1 or 2 grubscrews to remove, it was easy.  Don't you need some sort of puller now?
