Hi

My laptop has been in for a new screen and hinges.

It turns on ok, and does it start up ok, but it will not conenct to the internet.

I have turned the internet off, waited turned it back on, then turned back on the laptop, still no joy.

I ran a dianostic test as per the pop up box, and got the result;-
Problem with wireless adapter or access point.
a new work cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken

So please can you advise what I need to do.

Please use basic instructions, as I don't understand tecckie stuff.

(I am currently using my very old slow laptop, so I know the internet is working, OH is not having any problems, I think therefore it is the laptop)

Many thanks

    This /|\

Sounds like they may have disconnected the wifi perhaps?
Type 'device manager' into the windows search box (bottom left of screen - not Google!)
When it opens, double click on 'network adapters' - are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Will it work if you plug the laptop into the router directly?
You may find a spare cable in the router box (if you still have it!)

I picked it up at 5pm yesterday evening, so no I haven't yet spoken to the repair shop, but they are on my list!! :)

I have found a yellow cable (found in garage car boot box) and have 'jump started' the laptop it seems at the moment to be working ok, with out the cable.

There were no yellow exclamation marks when I opened network adapters

    Thank you

  • It sounds like the mini-PCIe WiFi card has not been reconnected to the WiFi antenna.
Or mini-coax connectors on the WiFi card have been damaged during the repair.

The antennas (two bits of wire) usually run up behind the LCD panel in the lid of the laptop.

If it is a problem again, let us know. Will need to see whether the laptop shows the WiFi card in device manager and then have a look at the state of the WiFi radio.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?

I have rung the shop and they 'think' it is the wifi cable / card which may have gone in on an angle, I need to pop it back round to them to have a look, but currently it is working fine,.
