O/S Daily Friday 23 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but very warm start to the day.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst I'm on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/salad - tonight will be breaded chicken and chips for the menfolk. I'll be having omelette filled with gammon, mushrooms and a sprinkle of cheese with salad.
I have the normal "to do" list - that needs my attention - so will be at the SM for 8am so I can get the food shopping done and out of the way before it gets too hot. I have a nail appointment also this morning so will get to that once the shopping is put away. Then will do the rest of the list at my own pace.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
It's a tiny bit cooler this morning which is wonderful. I woke up a fair few times in the night but managed to get back to sleep each time so I am not feeling so tired today.
I am worried about my sister. The last I heard is she was being sent for a CT scan as she was still in so much pain. My sister is extremely stoic so if she is not coping with the pain then it must be horrific. Her husband hasn't put anything on the group message so we are left wondering and waiting.
I have the district nurses coming today for an assessment on my leg. Touch wood it is actually feeling a lot better today and it looks as though all the major leaking has stopped. My doctor rang me yesterday and prescribed another week of antibiotics to be on the safe side though. The tablets are giving me quite a lot of tummy issues so I think I will wait and see what the nurses say before I take them.
Steve has taken chicken out for dinner tonight. I think he wants a curry so I will have some with cauliflower rice. He made a lovely meal last night of pork loin chops with a baked potato, broccoli and carrots. It was simple but so tasty.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx11 -
Good morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
After the early morning mist yesterday the sun came out blazing. There was hardly any wind and everything was still, it was very relaxing. First thing I loaded the car with the eight bags of garden waste and assorted other rubbish and drove into town to the dump. For years I've had two small off cuts of carpet as mats in the back hall, all frayed edges and increasingly horrid so they're now gone. I bought a jute runner to put down, it looks just perfect and covers the whole length of the hall. The chap up the hill brought me down a home made / grown tomato and basil tart for my lunch. 😀 Later on his father, now very old, came to visit. It was a relief that he knew me as he's starting to fade mentally, he was in a good phase. He's the one who invited me to move here in 2013 and offered me this cottage. I throughly enjoyed our long chat. After he left I had a snooze on the sofa, didn't mean to 😂 I just lay down to listen to the end of one of my books and, inevitably dropped off.Today promises another scorcher so I must water the garden before much longer. Most of my day should be spent sorting out all the stuff I turned out onto the spare bed. Maybe!Good vibes to all our poorlies and missing. Happy Friday to all.11 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.It's a grey start here, I know the heatwave is due to end this weekend.Welcome Rolorich, you'll find that this is a lovely group!Didn't do much yesterday except visited a couple of friends with a bit of shopping, they are both elderly, (even older then me!) and do go out now, but I still do a bit for them. Then went to DD's and deadheaded the roses, and brought a few home, they're a deep orange /pink, beautiful.I tidied up a bit once back at home, and sorted my cardmaking stuff out a bit - I've finally decided what to do with that card I'm going to make - I would never make a living at making cards, I faff about far too much, changing my mind, looking on Pinterest, it often takes a me a while. Are the other card makers on here like that I wonder, or are they sensible and decisive? if I have to make a card in a hurry I can though.Hope your sister is feeling a bit better Dumpling, and that her pain is being managed.Gers, you are still busy, you'll be glad when it's all done.Just the usual day ahead today, I have a little bit of shopping to do, I might even tackle the dreaded ironing! Visiting a friend tonight, there'll be four of us so we are back in the old routine of Friday nights, I'm looking forward to it.Hope everyone has a good day - take care folks.11

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's a cloudy start here too and forecast to be slightly cooler - "only" 24 deg compared with yesterday's 30. It was far too hot to do anything yet again but today I must at least amble round, up and down, with the duster and vac before the heat of the day hits us. Even the Sparkly Cat is looking fed up with it, throwing herself down, flat out, in the coolest spots she can find.
I have guests for the weekend!! Youngest two DGDs are coming this afternoon after last day at school and staying until Sunday afternoon. DD and her lovely chap are going to a wedding and staying over both before and after. Eldest DGD is staying home as chief minder of house rabbit Bobi Bunnykins but says she will come up and join us for a meal or two. Of course a certain dish has been requested to go on the menu! I think that will be tomorrow teatime and I must remember to get the mince out to defrost tonight!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, woeful and convalescents. DUMPLING I hope you get better news of your sister today. Such a worry for you all. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning All
Overcast this morning but still incredibly warm. We could do with a bit of a breeze to make it more bearable.
Had a lovely overnight stay in a beautiful hotel, didn't sleep very well as it was so hot (and my pal snores!). We had the windows open but there was a light outside that was quite bright so had to close the curtains. Came home to a very hot house but went for a swim in the loch to cool down. The beach we go to was incredibly busy with groups of youngsters who seemed to be fueled with alocohol, hope they stayed safe. Jet skis were a bit of a problem, good job we had bright orange buoys tied to us.
Not sure what's happening today, will see if DD wants to go to the loch with the little one, I know of a little bay that could be ideal, we used to live next to it but need to see if it can still be accessed.
Hope you can all stay cool and enjoy Friday. Take care. XX11 -
Hi everyone,
I'm sitting in the car outside marks waiting for them to open. I checked online last night and thought it said 8.00 but they're closed until 8.30,grr.
I'm doing a shop for Laura and Brian because they are going away tonight and Laura has 2 exams today. Then I'm going to look after the wee man while Brian sorts things.
Steve isn't with me because he's not feeling too well after his treatment although I don't think the heat is helping. I hope I survive the day because I felt as if I was in a weird half sleep all night.
Dumpling, I hope your sister has a better day.12 -
Morning all; lovely and sunny here today with a bit of a breeze.
Yesterday's pub lunch with friends was good and they came back afterwards to christen the patio with a cuppa. We've bitten the bullet and booked the same men to dig up the old concrete drive and replace it with paving sets, plus put new edging etc in the front garden. DH was hesitating over the cost but it will vastly improve the front of the house if we ever want to move plus they can slot us in during January as they've had a cancellation! Their normal waiting list is 9 months but they are currently booking for June 2022.
Unfortunately doing the follow on garden bits has given DH a bad back so he's been on paracetamol and back stretching exercises. We are going over to DD's for a family bbq today and he had offered to make sausage rolls but has had to cancel that. The sausage meat had been in the freezer since Christmas and I'd taken it out to defrost so maybe I'll be able to do something with it tomorrow. Looking forward to catching up with DS, who is driving up from Dorset for the day, plus SiL and her partner.
Off to sort out what to take so have a good day everyone and hoping that Dumpling's sister is getting the pain relief she needs.11 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We finally managed to get a pump out yesterday so we have proper toilet facilities again. We managed to nab a space on the wharf, but it's in full sun so Beano and I suffered a bit. Steve's gout is playing up, I'm hoping it settles down all as he can't take any more pills for it.
I've posted a pic on the Garden Fence thread is the view from my side hatch.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.10 -
Morning everyone, it’s lovely to read all your chatty news.
Dumpling, I’ve been thinking of your sister.
Been up for a while as my fan ran out of charge at 4am, then builders started at about 7am over the back of us.Going to pop up mum and dad this morning, I need to do the monthly check on their personal alarm scheme, plus check their meds to see if I need to do a prescription.. Then have a nice chat!
Later on this afternoon, I have a grocery delivery, for both me and my parents, and then back to them with their shopping and put it away. After this, I usually stagger to the back massager for 1/2 hour.
As it will hopefully be cooler, I need to cut the front lawn too, especially before the rain comes across, it’s not too big a patch, plus I have a cordless mower as I am so clumsy and me and corded electrical mowers/hoovers don’t get along too well and I was forever tripping the electrics. (Delayed reactions from fibromyalgia)
best get moving, take care all.
