PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. I think you are right to consider what places are like out of season. I only know Cornwall but it is a very different place in winter and I imagine it is the same in other holiday spots. I worry that there will be a property slump here in a couple of years when people realise it isn’t for them.0

I've been through this exercise and made a big checklist of what I wanted, what would be nice to have, and what I definitely didn't want. Proved to be very useful and helped me eliminate certain areas.
If you want the sea you can't go wrong with Alnwick in Northumberland. Ten minutes from Alnmouth beach and open countryside, bus station, hospital, big selection of supermarkets and the second largest bookshop in Europe. Railway station at Alnmouth. Also has Alnwick Castle with the opportunity of seasonal work when you retire.£216 saved 24 October 20140
