Applying for DBS certificate for self-employed job - can I claim the money back as work expenses?

There's this job that I am thinking of applying to where I will be working as a self-employed and therefore have to do my own tax returns. The job requires having an up-to-date DBS certificate which the employer says I will need to fork out the cost myself. However, as this is a self-employed role and I will be completing the self-assessment tax return form, I was wondering whether I can claim back the DBS application payment as work expenses? If I can, how do I go about providing proof of it? Do they give you a receipt when you apply for a DBS certificate?

Yes. See https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/forums/customerforums/expenses/2d1c5f11-5bcd-e911-b3b9-00155d9c6b78Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1
