O/S Daily Thursday 22 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but very warm start to the day.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was herb chicken with rice.
Work yesterday was busy as expected and today will be much the same, my last working day of the week.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday was more of clearing out stuff. By mid-afternoon I had had enough so loaded up the car and drove home. I didn't unload when I got here so that's to do today. My induction hob has a huge crack in it (think my decorator stood on it ☹️), it'll be covered by insurance but I have got the energy to sort it out yet so I bought a single induction hob which will do for now. I also bought a new clock for the living room as the one I was using ticked. I hate the ticking, the new one is silent - much better for my mood!
Today I have to empty the car and then reload it up with the bags of green waste which my gardener had filled yesterday. She's done a great job of clearing out the wilderness and is going to move onto the front part which is across the track.I also have a couple of prints and a photograph I want framed so I'll hand them in on my way back from tipping the garden waste. The weather is promising much again. 😎 ☀️
Happy Thursday to all.13 -
Morning all! OH tried a trick he'd seen somewhere else last night. When it had cooled slightly he opened the attic hatch and all the extreme heat upstairs was sucked right out. Just have to remember to put it back in place this morning...Haircut..well...went to the place and stood outside reading my book because I was early. No sign of anyone...Come nine, still no one. So I phoned the shop, message of 'we're shut until the 26th...OK..Checked their facebook page. We're shut due to a positive test and well contact anyone who is booked in. OK, so everyone but me then...Dodged a bullet there. So I went to a walk in hairdressers who did a really good job, and was also very big, not busy and plenty of space. I'll go there next time. Didn't really do anything the rest of the day except for a spot of tidying. I have a tip run booked for tomorrow so I could fill up my car in readiness while it's still relatively cool, there's a load of branches to go. And there's still some riddling left to do but not much left to go now , only about 9ft by 3ft. Food was a chicken salsa chuck in with new potatoes in a wholegrain mustard and yoghurt dressing and the same again tonight.TA, how did the new place stack up? Yes, I remember the cheesy bake, made me envious every time I read it
camelot, have a nice time. dp1, the museum exhibits sound great, I'd love to see the fantastic beasts one. rolo, good luck with your sea change attitude, hope you find a way to forge ahead...nanny, how about the damp teatowel approach? Gers, I know someone who built his own life size dalek. I remember having an in depth discussion with him about the best thing for the Dalek's 'eye'. I suggested the shutters on an old camera, no idea what he used in the end but he moved back up north England way and took it with him so I expect he might have made a few more by now...Take care in the hotness, stay safe from heatsroke and everything else!

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Beano and I had a peaceful day yesterday, Steve caught a train at 8:50, he should have been home by 1:30 but 2 trains were cancelled, the rail replacement bus was unable to run. It was 4:30 by the the me he arrived home. All this was caused by people not being able to work due to being pinged!
We are hopefully getting Beans he black water pumped out today. We have been without proper toilet facilities for a few days now.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Good morning everyone
Another stifling night here, I am also longing for the weekend when the temperature is due to drop a bit.
My BIL texted yesterday to say that my sister was sitting up in bed and talking but her pain was very difficult to manage so the hospital had a specialist team looking for the best way to help her. I am hoping to hear from her myself in a few days time but I know how hard it is to use the phone when you are so poorly. My youngest sister came to see me after her interview at our local school (she got the job) and so we put the world to rights for a little while.
Today is another day where I will not be moving around too much but I am hoping to be able to concentrate enough to read a book. I fancy rereading one of my favourite Terry Pratchett novels as they always make me happy.
Steve is yet again in charge of cooking but I think I just want a salad for dinner.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care and welcome to rolo xx11 -

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another scorcher in store. Getting ready for bed last night (with temp still 24) I put the fan on beside the bed and five minutes later all the power went off! Then a text from Powergrid informed me there was a power cut! With a promise it would be back on before midnight. I wonder if there is a power surge of fans now around that time! So I just lay there sweltering and at 11.30 a text informed me the power was back on. I had gathered that cos the fan had already started whirring again!
I had a lovely meet up with my oldest buddy yesterday and it felt as if the last 16 months had never happened. We just took up where we left off, albeit in a different venue! We ended up in Wetherspoons top deck beer garden under a big parasol and it felt really pleasant with a slight breeze blowing - we were in there for 4 hours chatting away! It was the usual couple of coffees each then lunch. which was really nicely cooked and presented. Enjoyed by us both. Back to every Tuesday again as from next week and, if the weather is nice, the same outside venue!
Got home to find my free - paid for with points - Flowerbomb had been delivered and left in an empty flower tub round the back. Couldn't resist having a quick spritz.
This morning I must water all the pots and tubs round the back before the sun gets on them, then the usual Thursday job of cleaning kitchen and bathroom. Then doubtless collapse with my book, feet up on the sofa. It sounds as though it will still be too hot to sit outside.
Have a good day folks and welcome to ROLORICH. Stick with us, we are in need of a fresh face, our numbers are dwindling what with illness and one thing or another. ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, woeful and convalescing. TAFF, the sumac is far more than a shrub! It's now about 20 feet tall and all the dead branches just look a mess. It needs razing to the ground! GERS try and relax a bit today in this heat. NAN I hope MR FIXIT is soon feeling a bit perkier. Have a good folks if you can and take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning all. Bright and sunny here and I have some washing to hang out.
Yesterday was spent getting some shingle to fill in bits by the side of the fence in the back garden and then 2 bags of top soil. They will eventually go in the new bed around the plum tree but we need to tidy it up a bit first and it's currently too hot! I've never had to buy topsoil before and luckily the men put them in the boot for me as they were really heavy. It then took both of us to carry them through to the garden when we got home.
Last night we were out at a pub with friends and today we are meeting different friends for a pub lunch. I have to make the pudding today for tomorrow's family bbq although I can leave the potato salad until tomorrow morning if I run out of time. It will be good to see DH's older sister and her partner, probably the first time in about 2 years.
TA: what's a Flowerbomb? Is it a spray for something?!
Keep cool everyone12 -

Morning, hugs if you need one..... Its stacking up for another stonker heatwise again today.........am really getting a bit fed up now, living in fear of a huge thunderstorm.
M came round after work yesterday, we now have all the rubber seal on the greenhouse, waiting for the replacement wheels for the door, we just have to put the roof vent and louvered vent in and then we can 'glass it'.
I am suffering this morning, very stiff, swollen feet and the dreaded red rash under my boobs.........despite that I have to travel to Aldi to do a shop, wonder how much stuff they will have in, shops are getting cleared out again. Distribution problem due to the pinger. Having seen the crowds at Wimbledon and the football I am not really suprised, the next thing will be another lock down. I doubt it will ever end. I know lots of people are deleting the pinger from their phones.
Once I get back from Aldi and put the groceries away, it will be another day inside with the back door open, fans on and curtains drawn.
We are having sausage tonight........I might do a jacket spud and beans rather than mash. We did not have our dessert last night , so will have it tonight.
