Being asked to accept bank statements and not final accounting

Hi, just after any advice, it's now over 2 years since probate opened in Florida, the representative has informed us the accountant is busy so there will be more delays regarding the final accounting, he has asked if we are happy to accept bank statements and not the final accounting.  I'm confused by this as surely he has to have the final accounting to go to the court, there is also a waiver he is preparing which releases him from his duty, waives accounting etc, again this is to present to the court to finalise the probate.  It's been like banging our heads against a brick wall to get any info from them over the 2 years!

The accountant is 'busy'. Pity that working on this account doesn't seem to be a priority; maybe he should try recruiting some help. Bank statements aren't going to give anything like the same level of information that accounts will, so unless you are sure all is above board and/or desperate for the cash, I'd press for the accounts - and make it clear you don't expect an inordinate delay in providing them.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • What does probate law in Florida say is acceptable in terms of accounts and the waivers you mention?  Is what you are being asked to accept standard practice in Florida?
