Fed-Ex Import Charges -Brexit

Hi,

I ordered and paid for a Kickstarter in September 2020 from a company in Poland, Received parcel in May 2021. then received a surprise import duty and tax bill from Fed-Ex in June 2021 stating that because it was imported outside the EU. can anyone advise me if I have to pay this bill as I already paid for the parcel & delivery before Brexit.  I have tried to email Fed-Ex but Have not received any reply.  please help

    Yes you have to pay for it unless the shipper declared on the import paperwork that the date of sale was prior to BREXIT.

    If they didn't do this then the courier was not to know that the sale was completed prior to BREXIT. You would need to settle this with FedEx (as they haven't done anything wrong here) and claim back your taxes from HMRC,

    Although you will not be refunded your FedEx Fees as these are for a service FedEx completed.

    Your reply is very helpful - would the same logic apply to something ordered in mid-Dec 2020 but delivered in Jan 2021?

    Only if the shipper put the date of sale on the information used for clearance. If there is no date then then date of shipping is considered the date of sale.

    So it all depends on your shipper's information submitted to customs.
