O/S Daily Wednesday 21 July 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy but very warm, we got some thunder in the distance last night but no rain or heavy storms which they said we may get.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO roast with added veg and gravy where needed. Tonight will be chicken something - not sure what yet, maybe chicken wrapped in bacon or chicken with a sauce or a herb rub.
Working at the other office today but only until lunchtime.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Still very warm here, Steve is going to collect his prescription today, he'll be gone most of the day. It may do him good and stop him sulking, it may not.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's another sunny start here, warm as well. We thought we'd go out for the day with a picnic, up to Weardale.DD and family went to their caravan in N Yorks yesterday, and she's asked me to deadhead her roses while she's away, and take as many as I want, so that's nice, I love roses, and she has quite a lot in her garden.Yesterday the opticians rang to say my new glasses were ready, so I went for them. I'm not sure if I like them now, the frames are darker than my old ones and I feel that I look all glasses iyswim - like them or not they cost a lot of money so I'll have to wear the blooming things.I'll get used to them I suppose. There's a nice little pile of ironing developing here, and I've been using the heat as an excuse not to do it. It won't get done today, but I'll have to woman up tomorrow and get it done. There's also a card to make, that I've been faffing with, and changing my mind over for about a week - more womaning up required there. I wish I was more decisive! However, I'll stop burbling on, and wish everyone a good Wednesday, thoughts to our poorly people and those struggling with life.Take care folks.14

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc.Yesterday's clearing out went wel. Dutchman wrapped and packed two boxes of glasses and glassware and one of the kitchen cookbooks. Then he loaded my car with about 15 unwanted paintings, three bags of rubbish and an armchair which didn't have a fire label. Earlier he and Alan loaded Alan's car with the three boxes of china from last week and a box of stuff which I had forgotten to give to the auction house porters last week. So it was a morning of packing, loading and unloading. In the afternoon I filled some more charity bags, tip bags and carrier bags (for my things) and a neighbour helped me downstairs to the car with them. I'm going to upload the photographs of the many remaking paintings to nt BT cloud account, send a link out to friends and family for them to choose one or two each. Already DM's crossword friend has claimed three and Alan has taken two. That only leaves about 20 more!
Today will be more of the same on a lesser scale. More things to go out, especially a couple of rugs. They're actually large off cuts of the living room carpet which were bound to make rugs. It's promising to be another scorcher so I'm nit looking forward to dragging things around on my own...but needs must today. My thoughts are still with our poorlies and missing. Happy Wednesday to all.13 -
Morning all! All windows and doors open to get some cool breeze before the onslaught of sun. We were promised a thunderstorm yesterday but as the day wore on it became clear no such thing was happening. It's now been shifted to Saturday instead, because obviously the thunderstorm was busy and couldn't fit it into their schedule.. Haircut this morning followed by a day of not a lot. I painted my toenails last night, very badly, but at least my feet no longer look like ugly troll feet but more like pretty princess feet as my sister would say. Coffee, or rather, water and then squash was fun, we were there quite a while. When I got back, OHs friend turned up after five minutes so they talked about little men and the latest game his friend had won discussing tactics etc. I struggle to stay awake through that so came in and watched some food channel. Food, shower and laying on the bed like a beached whale and the day was done...dumpling, good that she came through OK, hope she recovers well. TA,I googled your sumac, what a beautiful shrub! Sure it can't be saved with a drastic prune? Ruby, what a good idea, unfortunately I gave away my water bottle s I may resort to damp towels tonight. snoozer, hope steve is OK...Florence...I did laugh at that! Gers, kind of the same for us two, my mothers paintings are everywhere, all over the walls and sheaths thick of them in drawers. I went through the loose ones quite ruthlessly last year and got rid of a ot but there are still a lot left and I don't know what to do with them. We can only display so many...Good idea re the photos though, I might try that. Right.... to the garden and beyond!....Take care of yourselves on this stupid hot day, drink water, do not get heatstroke!Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. GERS it wears me out reading your posts, especially in this heat. I keep thinking the end is in sight and it's not.
We have a sort of misty start here but it still feels hot and the sun is forecast to appear again. I cope best with the temps in the low 20's, not the 30's!
I am meeting my oldest friend for coffee and lunch today. The first time since our favourite coffee shop closed down, at the same time as the world went mad 16 months ago. We are in touch daily and have had regular doorstep meet ups through all the lockdowns to swap over books and presents but it's not the same as sat nattering face to face. We have been at a loss where to meet up as our old coffee shop suited our needs perfectly - 2 coffees and then lunch (anyone remember the Cheesy Broccoli Bake!) and there was never any rush for us to vacate our table. We'd often be in there 3 hours or more! Those places are few and far between and you get mucky looks if you hog a table too long. A coffee shop in town has just re-opened under new owners and has had a total refurb so we are going to give that a try. It sounds promising as they have a separate coffee menu!
Other than that not a lot else is in store. Jobs are still on hold awaiting a cooler day. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, woeful and convalescing. Take care one and all and stay as safe as you can xx

Oh TA - your Cheesy Broccoli Bake was such a staple in this thread. I hope you find somewhere which suits you all.Taff - as well as offering to DM's friends and our family I'm going to ask some of my friends who have holiday cottages if they'd fancy a 'wall makeover'.Right, loins are girded!13

Morning All
No sunshine yet thank goodness, yesterday was too hot! No breeze but the windows and doors are all open to let some cooler air in.
Your clearing skills are second to none Gers, you have some good friends and neighbours.
Hope your Dsis is comfortable dumpling.
Enjoy your day out TA, probably too warm for a brocolli bake anyway!
I'm off to the seaside today to stay overnight, quite looking forward to it. The hotel has a pool, we've booked for 6pm and 10.30 tomorrow, may as well make use of the facilities! Going to call at DD's with some fresh peas I picked yesterday, the little one loves them straight from the pod.
Successful swim with said little one yesterday, she's slowly getting more confident in the water.
Hope you can all stay cool today, hugs to those in need. Take care.XX13 -
Morning everyone
I had a lovely few days in London, but it was very hot! My poor feet are sore from all the walking - it was lovely to take my sandals off on the train home last night.
I visited the Foundling Museum, A Fantastic Beasts exhibition at the Natural History Museum and spent 3 hours at the First World War exhibition at the Imperial War museum...which was fascinating.
Afternoons were mostly spent sunbathing in whichever park was nearest, reading my book and people watching.
Gers - you've done so much work in your mum's flat - hopefully you're almost finished now.
Camelot - little one loves peas straight from the pods too. She says 'aaaah cute' when she opens the pod, then eats them.
Well, I'd better get dressed as Tesco is bringing my shopping between 9 and 10. I've stocked up on nice salady things, so I hope it doesn't make the weather change!
Hope everyone has a good day.13 -
Morning all,
Being lazy today, still haven’t got up! I am actually going out today, I am off to a garden centre with my sister. Looking forward to it, I am off to browse and not spend. Apart from buying some bedding plants for my mum’s garden to try and coax her outside when it gets a little cooler.
Apart from this no other plans. I do need to tidy up the small bedroom but this can wait for cooler weather. It has become a dumping ground of wool, old newspapers etc.
Your time in London dp1 sounds lovely.
Take care all.

Gers - you've done so much work in your mum's flat - hopefully you're almost finished now.Your time in London sounds fascinating and you did so much, no wonder your feet ached. As some of you may know - I am a huge fan of Dr Who and have various models of the Tardis around my own home, I now believe that DM's flat is a real life Tardis! There's been so much stuff in each cupboard, storage boxes, above wardrobes etc etc. Just when I begin to think I'm almost done I realise that there's more to deal with! This morning I've been wrapping up kitchen knives to take to the tip. About 15 of them (and I'm keeping two of DM's 'favourite' knives ) now in bubble wrap and and cardboard hats over the points. It's such a shame to put them to the dump but they are mostly very old and three or four don't have pointy ends any more, too much stabbing at jar lids. The good part of doing this is remembering how much pleasure each knife gave DM, it's odd, I know, but she would select each one for a particular job and even tell me off for using what she thought was the wrong knife for the job. More bittersweet moments.Time for yet another visit to the tip and the CS.Happy seasiding Camelot. 😎
