Shell Mastercard from Citi Credit Limits

Just seen another post on here that reminded me - what has everybody been given as a credit limit on this card?

I got £500, and so did three of my friends who applied, and we all have excellent credit histories!

Is everybody being given a rubbish limit, or has anybody been lucky and got a decent limit on this card?

It doesn't bother me, I only use it where my Amex isn't accepted (very few places) so I rarely spend more than £50-100 a month on it. Don't use it for fuel because I have a fuel card from my employer.

£500 here too! I have excellent credit history and usually get limits of least £5000 !

I tend to spend £1000-£1500 monthly on my credit card, so it is a little annoying. I can't even work out how to pay the card during the month as their is no part of their website that allows this!

500 here also...!! I thought it was just me!
  • Have just applied and been given a credit limit of £10,000. I have quite a good salary and excellent credit history. As you all say that you have good credit histories I'm assuming it must be something to do with your salary?
  • How strange. I have a reasonable salary (mid 30s) and seem to get given reasonable credit limits on other cards, but also only got £500 on this card. This makes it pretty much hopeless as I spend more than that on fuel in a month. Unless my credit limit doubles I'll probably cancel the card.

I also got a £500 limit, which is annoying as i end up having to pay it of early some times before i even get the bill in just so i can use it,and make the most of it, but hey i have made £18 cashback in 2 month alot better than the £20 on my yorkshire card in 6 months. I will just have to wait the 6 months to up my limit. My parents father has good history and job got £6000. I know it can be inconvenient for some but i dont see why you are complaining this is a bank showing responsible lending which is good.

You're going to throw away £180 per year?

That's not very 'money saving' is it?
  • I only had one credit card when i applied and I've had that for years, maybe that was a factor in the limit i was given. Why not call them and find out why you were only given £500?

I'll see what they up my limit to after 6 months too, if it stays at £500 I'll just cancel it - it's a pointless card really unless I leave my job and work somewhere that doesn't provide a fuel card (although I do buy all my fuel from Shell because my car needs V-Power).

Maybe Citi are just being ultra cautious with the 'credit crunch' stuff going on at the moment, they are a US bank aren't they?
  • Well I bank with Citi. Have my standard £500 interest free overdraft on the current account, a Citi AAdvantage Gold card with £3500 limit and they rejected my application for a Shell card completely. Somewhat annoying when I spend between £6-8K a year on fuel. Or did anyway before buying a bio diesel processor!!
