Recommend SSD to speed up my PC

Indeed - full service tag is what someone will requireGDB2222 said:The OP has not said what his old PC is, and that does matter.GDB2222 said:I replaced the HDD on my ancient C2D PC with an SSD, and it transformed the performance.
I did the same on my rather newer laptop with an Atom processor, and it made hardly any difference. I assume that the processor is the bottleneck.
If you can add the SSD and leave the HDD in place, it makes transferring the data a lot easier.

Thanks for all of the useful information. The computer is a Gladiator, around 5 years old? It has an Intel i5-6500 CPU with 8gb RAM. When it starts up the HDD (1tb) is sitting on 100% for ages, which is why I think the SSD would help.I intend leaving the HDD in the computer, there is about 120gb on the C/ drive.

Your HDD is quite full, rather than replace it with a similarly sized SSD a better solution would to do keep it as a storage drive only and create a clean install of Windows on the SSD which you'll use as a boot drive.misterthrifty said:Thanks for all of the useful information. That's not to say you couldn't get a 1TB SSD, they're fairly cheap now, all depends how much you want to spend.

TIAJust to be clear, you have 120gb of data on the HDD? Or, that’s the amount of free space? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?1 -
The HDD has 110gb full, 820gb free.0

Ahh, that makes more sense, I was wondering how you managed to nearly fill up a 1TB HDD.misterthrifty said:The HDD has 110gb full, 820gb free.
In that case just get the 250Gb MX500, clean install of Windows 10 and keep the old HDD for external storage.1 -
Yes but it's a gladiator ok which model it's got a 6th gen intel processor but does it have a M2 slot? more info would help.Of course the old rust spinner could be failing , I hope you have backups . I guess if you are only using 120GB then you don't game on it, so a SATA ssd will bring improvementbut I would still suggest 500GB but that is down to your budget.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . If this device; https://www.aria.co.uk/VendorStores/GLADIATOR+Intel+Core+i5+6500+-+Pre+Built+Desktop+PC+?productId=63509 then it takes an M.2 SATA 3 or a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD. Not compatible with NVMe SSD.
Definitely better to buy a SSD with DRAM, so the BX500 should be eliminated from your possible shortlist. MX500 is good as are Samsung EVO.

I would not get too hung up about this. The difference between an SSD and HDD is like the difference between walking and having a car. Which car is less important. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

But if you had 2 cars that were very similarly priced surely you'd opt for the one with the full leather seats, climate control and upgraded stereo 😉GDB2222 said:I would not get too hung up about this.
