Hello
How much savings do I need to have or what minimum savings should there be in bank accounts to be eligible for a council house (leaving aside other circumstances)?
Thanks

I assume you mean the maximum savings limit to be eligible which is down to your particular council.

As per molerat, you'll have to look this up for your local council, but I would expect you will be ok if you have less than £6,000 given this is the point at which you start to lose Universal Credit. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

To apply or be accepted? You don't need anything.

I didn't think savings were relevant when applying for a council house. How long has it been the case?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I believe that anyone may put themselves on the register for a council house. You will be in with a long wait/may never actually get a property though if you are not in urgent need. It is these other circumstances that will determine wether you will be housed.

I think the OP needs to clarify if they are enquiring as to if there is a limit of savings to qualify for a council house, or if there needs to be a minimum amount of savings to qualify for a council house. But to be honest, this differs amongst different councils. For an accurate answer the best place to ask is the council.
And again, as has been said, need tends to be more important when applying for a council property than savings.0
