Do Fit (sick) notes change the type of benefits one receives?

Hi,
I am currently on Universal Credit. If I obtain a sick note, does this kick me onto ESA? Does it make a difference if the fit note says I can only do particular types of work rather than no work? Would I still be put on ESA (this would be undesirable since ESA doesn't get the £20 uplift).

Although at the moment they may just ask for the details on the fit note and ask you to keep hold of it in case you need to send it in the future. (Covid related) I'm unsure if the fit note stating you can only do certain types of work will start the work capability assessment process off but i'm sure others will know.Do be aware that the uplift is due to end in October so your UC will reduce by about £86 per month.1 -
If you are have a health condition that limits your ability to work you need to report this as a change of circumstances in your UC journal. You will need to support this with details of a Fit Note which DWP may need to see at some point. After 29 days this will then trigger a referral for a Work Capability Assessment and if subsequently found to have Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Activity would increase the amount of UC you are entitled to.
You cannot be transferred from UC to ESA.
The only ESA now available is new style ESA which is not means tested. You would need to apply for this separately. Any ESA you receive would reduce the amount of UC paid to you.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2 -
Also to add that if you currently work more than 16 hours per week and don't claim a disability benefit such as PIP/DLA then the fit note will not prompt a referral for a work capability assessment.

OK, if I don't have to go on ESA, then that's fine.
It's not so much a health condition, although I do have health anxiety. As you'll be aware, the prevalence of the virus is rapidly increasing. I'm in my 50's and have not been vaccinated. I don't have my own transport. So I'm currently very averse in seeking work that requires getting onto public transport. Or indeed working anywhere that's crowded.
Thank you people for your help.0
